We had driven down to Morcote after crossing Locarno and Lugano and this was a nice pretty place to come to. The drive through a part of Italy (we were coming from Switzerland) was really pretty as we took a narrow road through the hills. The village has some really nice old buildings, including a ruined castle that you need to walk up to. Its quite interesting to just walk through and enjoy your food at any of the restaurants along the shore of the lake. Its a really nice quaint place that is worth a visit for sure

We found the tourist information center after alighting from the bus from Lugano. The lady was helpful in telling us the attractions to visit in our limited time in the town. Morcote is more Italian than Swiss. Pictureresque is the best word to describe it. The cafes and stores along the town center would trick your mind that you are in the Mediterranean than in Switzerland.

We had good gelato while we waited for the scheduled bus back to Lugano.

A good idea is to reach Morcote by public boat. Expensive but very romantic. The same goes for public bus from Lugano. Parking in tourist season is almost impossible. Then in Morcote you may rent a bike , visit the Torre del Capitano, one of the oldest monuments in Switzerland and the ruin of the old castle. Morcote was the transit point between Germany and Italy. It is a jewel.

In my opinion it is highly overrated place....
Few nice buildings, but nothing special.
Could be visited as a part of other attraction in the area

Borgo Antico is literally the old town of the small town called Morcote, a beautiful town in Lago Lugano, in Ticino region, in Switzerland. It is located in the upper part of the town and the main building is the church of Santa Maria del Sasso. In fact, while you walk around the town close to the lake, you can see the old town. Also it is possible to see very beautiful views of the lake from this part of the town. A nice visit.
