The imposing medieval architecture of the chateau de Sully has dominated the Loire for seven centuries. With its high towers, its moats still filled with water and its superb conical roofs, the château gives the impression of having seen some of the finest moments of France's history. You can visit the residence of Maximilien de Béthune, better known by the name Duke de Sully, Henri IV's famous minister, and discover the history of this family which owned the castle for nearly four centuries !

The chateau itself has been restored in such a way as to make it easy for the visitor to see how it was used and by whom. Furnishings and costumes add to the story, A film tells the story of its history, and although the...More

A visit to the chateau offers a fascinating walk through French history -- from stays by French Royalty to the political machinations surrounding Joan of Arc. It's easy to spend several hours wandering through the surrounding grounds (watch for Vipers -- signs are posted) and...More

I went here with a group of friends, we had a lovely visit here, the location is lovely, the chateau is one to remember. Take some time to walk around the inside, the great hall is something very special indeed.

This is a lovely Chateau, especially the "under the roof" part of the Chateau. Very reasonably priced at 7 euros per adult. There are English (other languages available) guide cards for each of the areas. Ample free parking. There is also an area opposite the...More

Great castle and a very interesting tour with a passionated guide! Unlike some other castles in the Loire valley, Sully has been recently completely refurnished. Go if you can! It's also very closed to Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire, worth looking at, too.

Honestly not one of the most spectacular of the Loire chateau, but looks the part nonetheless, with round towers, machicolations and conical spires. It is surrounded by a massive moat made by diverting the river. Its most famous occupant was Maximilien de Bethune, great minister...More
