About

    Great restoration
We wanted to see this impressive looking castle without really knowing any of its history. Having seen it in person I am even more impressed by the work that went into its restoration. The castle's commanding view of the countryside from its lofty perch is overpowering, from battlements and its numerous towers. And it was all brought back to life by the vision and resources of one man and the team of builders. Highly recommend a visit and walk through.
Thanks for your review. It's amazing to know that you enjoyed your experience in our castle. See you next time!

    beautiful castle
The castle is located around a 30 minute drive from Cordoba. It's a very beautiful and impressive castle, used as the famous Highgarden castle in Game of Thrones. It's a shame that they only have a few references to GoT in the castle - they could have made it much more interesting
Thank you very much for taking a few minutes to rate us positively. It motivates us to continue working for our visitors. We are very happy to be part of the Game of Thrones story and your itinerary :) We hope to see you again soon in our castle

    Almodovar Castle visit
An amazing find and well worth a visit for a couple of hour's. It was beautiful to look around and plenty of signs to read and videos to view with English translation. Also good if you are a Game of Thrones fan.The only issue if there is one, is it is out of the way and you need transport but we went via taxi from Cordoba. Also need to bring own drink. But cafe down the hill if you want a walk.
Good morning, thank you very much for your visit and your review. We have several drink machines inside. All the best

This medieval castle is easily reached from Córdoba town, only 30 km from there. It is very big and impressive and one of the locations of Game of Thrones tv program. It is on the top of the hill. So many towers and rooms to explore. Suitable for everyone.

We visited the Round Castle in Córdoba, it is big & impressive. We walked around it and apparently there is a library inside. It was closed upon arrival. The weather was cold and roaming around was nice.

Although the castle has undergone extensive renovations it is still very much a medieval castle with most of the rooms depicted as they would have been used when first constructed. As other reviewers have stated, it is one of the location sites from Game of Thrones and for good reason. A fun place to take children as well as adults. The castle can be rented for events. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful place with wondrous views.

Took a 45 minute bus ride from the Cordoba bus station (for 2€ on the San Sebastián bus line) to Almodovar. It leaves about every 2 hours (ask the info desk for a schedule) and will leave you right at the top of the city where the driveway to the castle starts. Make sure to keep track of the other stops in the city to catch the return bus later. It's a 15 minute walk up to the castle and a 7€ entrance fee. It was well worth the trip for me. I liked the keyhole horseshoe arches, the dungeon, and the spectacular views. You can also take a hike around the outside of the castle. Afterwards we walked down into the city and then to a shady spot with picnic tables on the shore of the river at the end of a dirt road. An awesome trip!

Fabulous location with amazing views. We walked up to the castle from the village which took maybe 30 minutes in total. The views when you get near it are amazing, you can see for miles.

The castle itself is fabulous, lots of turrets to go up, cellars to go down and even a dungeon!

There is a visual presentation in English that gives you the story of the Castle and it's very well done and interesting. There are also displays of swords through the ages, different types of armour and scenes that depict various elements of castle life.

All very interesting and you can definitely while away a few hours here.

This is one of the most amazing castles I have seen in Spain.
I recommend to have a day trip from Cordoba or any other cities nearby.

How to arrive:
There's a bus from the Cordoba bus terminal (right next to the train station). It's only 2 euros.
There are several bus stops at Almodovar del Rio. If you're Spanish is not fluent, you'd better tell the driver CASTILLO.
Almodovar del Rio is a small village with almost nothing else to see.
If you are a really busy traveler, take photos from the train. If you are a normal traveler, take a day trip. And if you love slow traveling, stay 1~3 nights.
Of course, the castle is located at the highest area of the village. It's 15~20 min walk from the entrance sign (starting point).

Inside:
7 euros. Most people will think it's a lot comparing to other castles.
Yes. It's more expensive than many other castles.
And in my mind, it's not a ripoff considering the number of visitors and expense to maintain.
There are amazing spots such as an arms room, a dressing room, a video room, a prison and the wall of swords.
This castle has many towers of different names. Climbing up there will be tough, but nice.
There is a timetable to enter. Be aware of the schedule in advance. There are several hours without the entrance during the day.
It took me about 2 hours for a really really slow tour.

Photo Zones:
If you have a drone or a car, there's no worry to find good places.
Unless, there are 2 places I can suggest for the castle including the white village of Almodovar del Rio.

1) In front of the Cemetory (Cementerio San Rafael)
This is where the local people recommend and I do as well.
It's about 5~10 min walk to the north from the starting point to the castle.
Here you can get great photos of the castle with some good white houses.
If you have much time, taking a look at the cemetory will be nice too.

2) Around Camino de la Barca (an unpaved way near the railway)
This is where you can get photos of the castle with most part of the village and I don't recommend.
It's the down-end of the village. And almost like a farm yard (I don't know how they'll change in the future). You are going to have lots of bugs and smell of p.
If you wanna have photos at sunset, you should go late or you are going to get burnt under the sun of Andalucia. 20:30 ~ 22:00 in May was a good time to take nice photos.

I have to admit we had so much fun in this castle. Is a gem, beautifully restored. with games and talks, wine and show on how was life during medieval times . Games of Thrones fans would be delighted to see that some parts were filmed here

We decided to check out this castle to break up our drive from Cordoba to Sevilla. The castle sits a top a stunning hill and can be seen from miles away. It is absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing.

We visited on sort of a dreary day and it was quite windy, but we just bundled up and had fun climbing the towers. Obviously, most of the castle is reconstructed. Check out the amazing historic photos of the castle before restoration.

They have lots of exhibits to help make sense of castle life. Most all of the exhibits were translated into English. They host school groups and it was fun to watch the kids running around in their medieval aprons. They have a nice gift shop too.

If time permits, there are several paths near the base of the castle. This is a great value for 8 euros, parking is all along the road up to the castle (we parked almost near the entrance). Keep in mind that they do close for siesta, so schedule your visit accordingly so you will not be disappointed.
