We‘ve been there after heavy rainfall. Therefore it has been quite impressive and muddy. It‘s a remote area. You‘ll find a spot for parking at the very end. There is a guy who stays there a lot and will ‚show you around‘. At the end he will say that he is a tour guide and wants money. But we still liked the place.

This message applies for people who are looking forward for their future trip to Mauritius. As a mauritian, i would definitely suggest you to put the Rochester Fall on your To-Do list.
In my opinion it is the most beautiful waterfall i've seen there.

I want to share something with you whenever you are planning to visit the Falls:

Firstly, it is quite hard to find the road which leads to the waterfall. Very muddy area during rainy season. You will need to go through sugarcane fields etc..so just wear comfortable sneakers.

Secondly, go in GROUPS

And the most important thing:

When you will reach the waterfall, some locals will approach you and will ask you if you would like to have a guide. Just say NO because it is not difficult to go around the waterfall. When taking pictures, some locals will jump from the fall into the water and will then ask for money.
a GOOD ADVICE, do not take pictures of them if they are jumping or just say no because you just want to see the waterfall.

I was disappointed to see them asking for money because as a local, i just want people to enjoy the beauty of the island and the culture. And not getting ripped off !

I hope this would be of a great help.

Drove ourselves here as it seems to be in a lot of the guide books and we were down in the south of the island that day. The drive to it is very off road so if it has been raining I would give it a miss, even when it has not been raining the road is very rough and pot holed through the sugar cane fields.

If you are not on a group visit then beware the local guide that will show you around and feed and water you, this of course comes at a price that is not on show anywhere (have your haggling skills at the ready).

You will be at the top of the falls when you arrive and the path down to the bottom is not hard to find or follow so guidance is not needed. As you look around the falls try not to take any photos of the boys jumping from the top as this again will require a tip.

Great photos and well worth the drive for them.

Rs0 - Rs1000000 P/P all depends on what you eat, drink or take photos of and how good you are at haggling.

We drove ourselves here, be aware that the road to it is not actually a road and more of a uphill dirt track, it's a bit scary. We loved the waterfall. As soon as we got there a local man came down from the top, telling us to get into the water. We were going to do this anyway. He pretty much pestered us throughout our visit here. When we got out he brought us all a coconut each, we knew we'd have to pay for them but thought we would take them to be polite. On our departure we asked him who much money he wanted, to which he replied "what you think" for four coconuts we gave him Rs500, bare in mind I had bought a coconut for Rs20 the day before. This man was so rude and asked for more! I thought we had been generous in giving that much, given we didn't even want or ask for these coconuts. He followed us back to our car asking for "big money" what we gave him averages around £13! Just be careful of these people and if you don't want to get into a situation like we did then do not accept anything from them.

One of the best of the very many waterfalls in Mauritius. Children can swim in it is well, so that's a big plus. The car has to be parked a few minutes away, and walk down the rest of the way, but thats not really a big deterrent.

Hi
This is to all travellers who are thinking of going to Rochester falls, it’s not the best water fall I’ve seen but our experience was the worst part of our road trip around Mauritius

Me and my girlfriend we spending a week in Mauritius and people and sights were amazing.
We decided to go to Rochester falls after reading reviews on the internet.

We had hired a car and drove to the falls after a few wrong turns we found the falls and the route is through a Sugar and Banana plantation and which is not very well sign posted.

It started to rain and thundering very heavily and as we got to the approached the closeted place we could take our car and we were the only people there we were approached by a mguy call babbu, who said he could take us the last 500 or so Meters to the falls, at this point the rain was turecnchal, babu offered us a plastic to sheet to cover our heads, we locked our car and made the walk down to the falls,

It took about 10 minutes to get down to the falls which were a massive anti climax, babbu took a few photos for us as the rain poured in, we then made our way back up

babu was way in front of us and we lost sight of him, as we got up and headed towards our car we saw that the drivers side window was down, only as we got closer did we see that someone had through massive rock through the window and stolen our bag,

It’s was at this point babu started telling us that there had been a few cars this week that had been broken into, he then franticly started telling us that he was going to call the police, at this time I got worried for our safety and told my girlfriend to get into the car, Luckily a group of tourist then arrived on quad bikes. The tour guide then advised us of the location of the police station

We were highly suspicious of babu as how did anyone know we were there, we then made our way to the police station, they told us a lot of cars that been broken into and people have been attacked, the Police took us back to the point we’re our was broken into, to take photos for the police report and on route he told us it was very common for this around the falls and on the way back he, he stopped a couple going to the falls and told them to go back as it was dangerous

It was a rainy day and since everybody said that Rochester Falls was a "must see" while in Mauritius we headed to it. Beware: Drive in the general direction of the Falls and then either ask locals or start looking for handwritten (!) signs. At one point you will leave the regular road and start heading along dirt tracks through sugar cane fields and private company property - even if you think "this cannot be it", yes, that's the way to arrive at the falls! At the end of the "road" you just park anywhere and then walk about 400m of dirt path to the falls - the view is breathtaking and as mentioned also an activity that you can do while bad weather (well, the dirt roads are even more dirty so don't come with a suit and nice shoes). BTW, at your "parking spot" you will meet a couple of local men who will "help you park" and are selling bananas and coconuts. They will also "show" you the falls and how to obtain sugar cane liquid in exchange for a tip but they never bother to thank :-(.

Visited these falls while doing a Blue Bay tour. On the way to the falls we saw Macaque monkeys, fruit bats and other wildlife which made the trip up river just that much more enjoyable. Having waterfall therapy is always good, and I enjoy any kind of water fall and the music they play off the rocks. the only down side to the boat tour was I could have stayed longer at the falls, the area was nice and quiet and remote. If you any type of water falls then come and add them to your "collection".
The Good: lots of water flowing over the rocks singing to visitors
The Bad: There is no bad a water fall
The Ugly: not today
On the scuba bubble scale I give this place 6 out of 10 bubbles
