We went to Lockheart castle because we saw the sign as we were driving through Gunma, and thought it might be a fun stop. Ok so the story is that a Japanese actor bought the main old building (it's a big historic house, not a castle) in Scotland and then moved it in pieces to Japan and rebuilt it here. But if you're expecting a fully faithful Scottish manor house then oh no, think again.
The exterior looks pretty authentic but once you step inside the true crazy becomes apparent. It's a hideous mashup of pink marble and faux old stuff, together with a Santa museum!
And it doesn't end there, the owner clearly loves old stuff from the UK but doesn't seem to discriminate as to where in the UK it's from. So you'll find leprechauns, London buses, Scottish shortbread and all sorts of confused stuff in what looks like the interior of a Californian mansion. Add to this the fact that there are princess experiences going on where Japanese girls are dressed up in huge ball gowns and are lead around the place having their photos taken and this could very well be the most surreal place I've ever been.
Is it hilarious? Yes. Is it worth going to if you're driving by? Yes. If you're Scottish and have pride in your heritage you might find this place a bit painful. The brochure refers to the "independent Scottish king Robert Blues", 'nuff said

I have a hard time deciding the title of this post as the castle is oriented towards the lovers, young …soon to be married guests ….or I might be wrong…
My daughter enjoyed getting dressed for 1500¥/hour and my 68year old parents enjoyed ringing the "Spring bell" which is supposed to bring eternal love.
I enjoyed the Patricia cafe and the wedding gallery! Beware…a lot of steps…

I was there once before and we went all though the Castle. I was disappointed that we were only allowed to see the first floor this time. However, they were doing a lot of work on the buildings and that might have been the reason.
