I'm a massive fan of Japanese whisky and couldn't wait to visit the Hakushu Distillery in Japan! Firstly, you need to book online on the first day of the month you wish to go as tours frequently get booked out. Also if you drive there you will be issued a lanyard and wont be able to drink. It's easy enough... More

Having always been a "Scottish" drinker I was very keen to try this world renown whiskey and it didn't disappoint. We traveled from Tokyo to Kobuchizawa Station on the Chuo Line, then caught a taxi to the Distillery (Y1000). Very quick and easy. The office will book a return taxi for you. The distillery is set in beautiful forest setting... More

I don't drink but enjoyed the tour thoroughly. The distillery is set in a lovely wooded setting. The air is as fresh as can be and birds were chirping away. The short walk from the car park to the distillery and back is enjoyable because of this. Once in the distillery you will be hit by the warm sweet aromas... More

Can't find HIBIKI 30 anywhere in the U.S. so I'm glad we splurged on the tasting. :) I'm not a whiskey aficianado ... but IF I were ... HIBIKI 30 would be my GO TO drink!!! The Yamazaki ... well ... you already know how I feel about the HIBIKI ... the Yamazaki ... it was GOOD ... but nothing... More

I had visited here as a company one day trip from Tokyo. It was very interesting and unforgettable experience. Staffs working here were extremely warm hearted, friendly, kind and hospitable. From restaurant to shop all the way their service mind is everywhere. Location is also exclusive. Only a few hours from center of Tokyo, we can find peace and wonderful... More

Situated within a forested mountainous region of Kobuchizawa, the Hakushu is not only a haven for whisky lovers to enjoy its distillery tour, but also for those who enjoy being close to nature and scenic views. Excellent place to consider going as a day trip from Tokyo.

Tour was very informative lasting 45 minutes with multiple languages available. The whole experience was sadly let down by the tasting. The malt could only be tried as a highball and no vintage malts were available. Can't complain about the price (free) but should have had paid for options to sample non-highball vintages as well.

My Japanese colleague went with me for a tour (free) of this distillery. We took a train (2hrs) from Tokyo on a Saturday. The journey is interesting - into the southern Japan Alps - and passes quite quickly. Snacks and drinks are available on the train. At the distillery, we had a nice lunch first and then took the tour.... More

The tour itself is free, and it gave me a feeling like i was in the middle of forrest as they have a bird sanctuary as well. it's impressive how they show you and giving you details of the distillery itself. it's a must place to visit when you are in Japan, even you are not a whisky drinker. The... More
