We found this by accident while driving to Furano.

For Paleontologists, this is a gold mine. The best collection of Ammonoids anywhere. Biggrst in Japan. Some are huge. Also plenty of good Trilobites, and prehistoric animal fossils and formed up skeletons.

They also have a section on the town's history and earlier coal mining.

A very well put together museum that you you can comfortably cover in an hour.

Sufficient English translations.

There is an outdoor section that was closed on the day.

It on the way out of town toward Furano, on the right.

A nice break on the Sapporo to Furano drive. Worth a stop over.
