海霧の中の湖

根室から落石岬に行く途中で←長節湖の看板があり寄り道。
海跡湖？らしく細く砂州が海と湖を分けています。
といってもそこまでは車が走れる道があり長節湖の看板もあります。
霧が少し出ていて、その中をカモメが飛んでいて幻想的でした。

この時期はどこを歩いても真っ白、最寄駅の西和田駅より３kmほど歩く。どこから長節湖？いつの間にか着いている。
一周できる周遊歩道があり、転々と西国三十三観音（４５体）が迎えてくれる。

景色がよいです。

湖に面してぐるりと一周出来るようになっています。
地元の小学校で遠足コースに選ばれることもありました。
野鳥など写真を撮る方もいます。
ただ、平日一人でまわるには少し寂しい雰囲気もあります。

わざわざ立ち寄るほどの湖ではないかと

「ちょうぼしこ」と読むこの湖は温根沼の西に位置する湖で、温根沼と比較すると小さいですが、立派な湖でした。ただし、湖に向かう途中の道はきちんと整備されていない場所もあり、観光地化はほとんどされていないように感じました。わざわざ立ち寄るほどの場所では無いかな？という印象です。

冬は一面歩き放題

冬は凍結して湖面上を一面歩き放題です。あまり大きな湖でもないので、歩き回るのに手ごろです。湖ではわかさぎ釣りなども行われていました。凍った湖面に更に10センチほど柔らかい雪が積もっており、更に湖の周囲の丘の上に登って湖の景色を眺める場合は、雪が深いので、スノーシューを持参するとストレスなく歩けて良いです。アクセスは、路線バスが無いので、車で訪れるか、最寄り駅の根室本線の西和田駅から歩く場合は、2.5ｋｍほどあります。
