Long drive to middle of no where.
The view from the bridge was good.

The walks could be ok but we could not find the start for the one we had chosen.

I couldn't agree more with abseilor.

What the websites often omit is the long tedious drive over 23km of gravel road to the bridge. It links up with Whangamomona Road which leads to Whangamomona but, unfortunately, it appears to be on private land as it is double-gated and fenced and there is also a huge signboard which warns that it is not suitable for vehicles.

That means driving another 23km of the gravel road back to the Forgotten Highway (SH43)! In comparison, the last 15km of the Forgotten Highway which is gravel is a much easier drive. Later at the Whangamomona Hotel, we found a Heritage Trail plaque on its external wall which stated that this stretch of the Whangamomona Road from the bridge is "not maintained" and is now "popular for tramping, horse riding and mountain biking."

Unless you are a history buff, just forget about this bridge and save your time, effort and gas for the other attractions on the Forgotten Highway!

Two hours of driving literally to see a bridge. There is only one road in/out despite what Google maps may tell you. The road is not well sign posted and which makes it easy to get lost. Also there is no food or art etc in the small towns along the way. There is nothing special about the bridge in fact I'll post a photo of it. Save your time, energy and petrol.

its a bit of the beaten track, but i think its worth the trip, takes you into some true back country. The roads are gravel, its also worth carrying on from the bridge to the old homestead, there are some nice places for lunch. It is necessary to do a ford crossing, so it might not be suitable for all vehicles
