Nice view

This is the rocky view point at the end of Shiratani Unsuikyo Trail.
It's not that hard to reach and has a great view.

light hiking but gorgeous scenery
May 2018 • Couples
We went there spring time. Usually, there is a rainy season but at the time it was really nice weather. Some people say that rain with this forest is real Yakushima forest scenery but Sunny day also very beautiful!

If you do Shiratani, you HAVE TO do this, too
Jul 2018 • Friends
It's the very end of the Shiratani 4-hour return hike, marker 16 on the map. And it will not be easy to get up there, but it's worth it for that view and sense of accomplishment when you finally make it to the top.

Just go slowly and carefully on your way back down.

Whoever thought that 600 meters there and back would be so difficult?

MAGNIFICENT VIEW! If you do Shiratani, you MUST include this stop!
May 2017 • Couples
After a couple hours of hiking through the thick Genserin Shiratani rainforest, it is both magical and surreal to finally emerge from all the foliage to behold such a view. WOW. It was incredibly windy which made it even more majestic. We were there on a clear day and we could see Tachu Dake in the distance and more shades of green than I could count.

The last climb up was STEEP but short and totally worth it. If you hike Shiratani, I would definitely include this. We did all of Shiratani including Taiko Iwa rock in about 3.5 hours. The timeframes are generous on the map.

You don't need to be ironman to do this hike. Average fitness is fine, but you will get winded so pace yourself. Getting there is easy as Shiratani has the most maintained trails on the island. Just print a map and look for the pink ribbons and you'll be fine. :)

An absolute highlight of our hike in the Shiratani Unsuikyo valley
Aug 2017 • Family
We took the local bus to the entrance of Shiratani Unsuikyo. After an already exciting almost 2 hours hike we reached the Taikoiwa rock. What an amazing spot and what a great view. Plan enough time for your visit so that you are able to reach this place. It is the longest course within Shiratani Unsuikyo and it requires you to climb a couple hundred meters, but it is all worth the effort.

Nice close target from Shiratani Unsuikyo

The view is impressive and the walk up and down covers the most natural and beautiful terrain. Be sure to take the slightly longer path of the loop, either up or down.

Pictures cannot capture the stunning view

This is the final destination of the long hiking route of the Shiratani Unsuikyo. And man is it worth it. It was a clear sunny day, which is often elusive on the famously rainy Yakushima, and I couldn't help but give an earnest expression of "sugoi!" ("wow/amazing!") when I saw the amazing view. An entire valley that stretches 180 degrees in front of you, it took my breath away. I've travelled a lot (see my profile) and this was one of the best views I've ever seen. I stayed up here for half an hour - I couldn't stop taking photos!

Great view and great spot to take a meal break (if nobody is around)
Jun 2016 • Couples
We climbed up to Taikoiwa early morning and luckily the weather was very nice and we had a great view. As there was nobody else, we had a second breakfast to re-energise ourselves for a big walk (we were walking to Jomonsugi from Shiratani Unsuikyo). This place is a must when the weather is nice and the visibility is good.
