This waterfall is on the southwest side of the island, and while it is possible to get a bus there and back, they can be infrequent, so be sure to check the timetable very carefully. The waterfall lands on a rocky basin and you can climb around on the rocks and the side of the cliff if you're agile enough.... More

We visited Oko Fall during a rainy season after a rain so there was a lot of water to the extent it was causing a wind. It was very impressive but was hard to climb up onto the rocks. Near the waterfall bus stop, you can collect spring water, supposedly one of best waters in Japan.

...But if you bring your swimming trunks (which I didn't) why not go for a swim. Be careful on the slippery rocks though.

This place is great - it's nice if you can get there without too many other people around. For the best experience, climb up onto the rocks and let the mist from the falls hit you.

It is very beautiful and you can get right up close to it and take photos. You can even climb onto the rocks if that's your thing.

It's a beautiful waterfall. Especially in a good weather. But if you are not driving, this will take like an hour and half to get there. Make sure you have bought the day pass for the bus as well (1000/day, bought at the tourist center near the ferry port) or else it could cost your for more than 2000yen to... More

Close to the road but a world away - a really high waterfall with millions of dragon flies patrolling in front of it!. Plenty of room to sit and stare.

夏後半は屋久島は雨季の季節 台風やらすごいです、 そんな時に、特に雨上がりの日に行くとすごく感動します。ちなみに私はこれが二度目。 This was my second time visit to Oh-ko Waterfall. Yakushima is a cross-point of major typhoons coming to Japan. So it rains there A LOT! You are very lucky if your hiking gets not canceled due to rain. What happens during such rainy season is, when it rains heavily, gates are closed at the mountain. (No Hiking).... More
