About
The Kouraku Kiln was founded in Arita (Saga Prefecture, Japan) in 1865 and has been producing ceramics for the past 150 years. Over that time the facility has accumulated a vast collection of pottery that has, for one reason or another, gone unsold. The warehouse is so vast that some workers use a bicycle to get from one side to the other. And they’ll be the first to admit that even they don’t really know what’s in there. The production facility is now inviting visitors on a “treasure hunt” to try and get rid of some of their stock. Here’s how the treasure hunt works: Make your reservation by phone (they only allow 10 people per day) Show up at your designated time, select your course (5,000 yen) and pay Get a 30-min tour of the facility Begin your 90-min treasure hunt. You’ll be given a pair of gloves, a flashlight and a basket. You can take home everything you fit in your basket. th_cThe more expensive course gives you access to a special section of decoratively pain

A very special place in this porcelain town: an old warehouse with massive stocks of pottery, all mixed up, single pieces together with massive stocks of plates, cups etc, letting you get your hands dirty yourself and to take home a filled basket of either 5000 or 10000 Yen with what ever you find and can fit in.
Our start was slow, a little overwhelmed by the massive amount of dusty cases around, and not so many obvious beautiful pieces. But ones you get taken into the game, we finished of course with fully filled baskets and some really nice pieces. For repeat guest, you can even get a point card.

Thank you very much for your visit! Hope you had a good time in Arita. Now we are preparing gloves for not dirty, and the surface of porcelains is smoothly,so if you wash with water, will be clean soon. Thank you very much for your comments!

Fun morning activity for my day trip to peaceful countryside, arita and takeo. The warehouse is spacious with boxes of pottery all piled up waiting to be discovered. Watch out for minor defects and cracks on some pieces, otherwise, most of them are still in pretty good conditions. It will be easy to get a basketful of pottery~could choose the 10000yen plan instead of the 5000 one for more variety and design.
Staff are friendly and helpful. They could arrange a courier service for the potteries at reasonable price to nearby city.
Transportation is a bit inconvenient though. We took taxi (around 1400yen) from arita station as the local bus schedule is not frequent and could not directly reach 幸樂窯. We chose to have a nice 20mins walk back to the jr station afterwards.

Thank you very much for coming here! It is glad to know you could have a fun experience here. The 10,000yen course is more variety and design. We hope you have a good dinner with the Arita porcelain!

I love porcelain. Arita has history and tradition.
I visited Arita 3 years ago and I will never forget the beauty and peace of mind of the city.
I did not hunt in Arita, but I can imagine it to be fantastic. Wow. For 5000 yen you can choose the porcelain? When I return to Japan next year I will want to hunt in Arita.

Very fitting name to the place, you will certainly find pieces you can call treasures and the place has a great history of family tradition.
