I was there for the Ohenro. From the base of the mountain, it's an hour hike up. I found out (of course, later) that taking the road was much easier than taking the walking ohenro trail.

The temple is huge compared to the average along the ohenro trail. It has nice bush garden (probably Satsuki azalea?) on the hill to the upper main hall / dainichido hall.
The statues in this temple are in great location that they impressed me right away. For example, walking up the steep stairs to the main hall and you'll see a big majestic Fudo Myo-o statues on the right side just at the time you feel super tired.

Great temple. I will definitely visit again in the future.

In the middle of our second week of our October walk, we very much enjoyed getting to and from this temple. We left our backpacks at the inn where we dined and stayed ("Drive-In 27") to allow an easier walk. The 5km walk up from the sea was quite steep but peaceful, requiring about 2 hours. There were several places that announced the presence of snakes. We elected not to try to find them, choosing to stay on the road rather than the paths through the woods. The temple itself was beautiful, built into the mountain with steep stairs (see picture). We got back down in time for sunset and dinner, walking through autumnal fields of rice and other tall grasses.
