誕生寺に進む道沿いに有ります

西側の誕生寺を浄土にたとえ、ここにて法然上人のご両親の追恩供養が行われました。誕生寺に進む道沿いに有り、大きな塔が目立つので迷わず行けます。

二十五菩薩練供養

　よく知られているように「娑婆」は現世を指す仏教用語だ。このお堂は法然が誕生した館跡とされる誕生寺の門前にあり、法然の両親を弔う「二十五菩薩練供養」の折に、祭神が立ち寄る御旅所となる舞台だ。四月第三日曜に行われており、当日は誕生寺を極楽浄土に、娑婆堂を現世に例え、二十五人の「菩薩」が練り歩く。同様な祭りは当麻寺（奈良県葛城市）などにもあるが、誕生寺のそれは当麻寺、弘法寺（岡山県瀬戸内市）と並んで「日本三大練供養」と呼ばれる。

誕生寺山門の少し手前に不思議な形の塔がありました。

正面に誕生寺の山門を見て、右手側に不思議な形の塔が建っていました。"娑婆堂"と云う説明書きがあり、"二十五菩薩練供養お旅所"と紹介されていました。毎年4月第3日曜日に執り行われるようでした。結構広い境内を有していましたが、小さなお堂と"塔"が目立つだけでした。
