法然上人の生誕地に建つ誕生寺の門前にある小ぶりな神社で、同寺の鎮守だという。現地の看板は誤字などがあり少し怪しいが、そこから推測すると、京都の下鴨神社（現地の看板は下加茂神社）を勧請し、おそらくは産土神である大穴牟遅命（大国主命）と合祀し、「加茂神社」と名乗っているのではないか。祭神は賀茂建角身命（現地の看板は加茂建身命）玉依媛命、大穴牟遅命の三柱だ。気になるのは現地の看板である。環境省・岡山県と書いてあるのだから少なくとも環境省が発足した後の21世紀のものだろうが、ずさんだ。ただ、環境省が看板を掲げるのだから何らかの自然公園なのだと思われる。

JR誕生駅から誕生寺に進む道沿いの若干高台にある神社です。誕生寺の鎮守の神として９世紀前半に建てられたようです。境内は綺麗に整理されています。

JR誕生寺駅から徒歩で数分の場所に位置していました。元々、誕生寺参拝に向かう道すがら案内標識を見つけて、手前にある神社にも参拝して行きました。道路から少し参道を上がった場所に拝殿がありました。普段は無人のようですが、きちんと整備されており、何故か環境省・岡山県による説明板も立っていました。
