矢掛宿の西側に存在する寺院です。山門をくぐると一番驚いたのは伽藍よりも高い木、随分と樹齢が古いのかなと考えてしまいます。観光客を呼び込みそうな寺院ではありません。

旧山陽道沿いに碑が立っており"観音寺"入口（参道）となっていました。真言宗御室派の寺院で山門を潜って境内に入れば半分が墓地となっていました。寧ろ、反対側の国道側からの方が境内を見渡す事が出来ました。
