篤姫が泊まった本陣

矢掛宿には、日本唯一の本陣、脇本陣が共に国指定の重要文化財として旧姿を残しています。
この旧矢掛本陣石井家住宅は、矢掛駅から徒歩10分くらいです。
今も個人所有という、立派なお屋敷には、大名が出入りした御成門（基本的には閉じてます）、
本陣屋敷の玄関、帳場、広間、三の間、二の間、次の間、上段の間と続きます。
上段の間は、篤姫も泊まったのだとか
ガイドさんが丁寧に案内してくれます。当時の宿札がそのまま残っていて、当時の繁栄がしのばれました。
宿札の使い方も初めて聞いたので、なるほど～そうやって使うのか！と勉強になりました。

「矢掛宿」に残る「本陣」です。屋敷内には入ってみるべきでしょうね。

「西国街道・矢掛宿」に残る「本陣」です。保存状態が極めてよく「よくこんなものが残っていたものだなぁ～」と感心しました。
因みに、国重文の建物で文化財的にも非常に価値が高い建物なので、中に入って、じっくり見学することをお勧めします。

大名の宿泊場所

昔の山陽道の宿場であった矢掛にある本陣、大名の宿泊した豪邸で建物もよく保存されていました。高速道路の山陽道のインターにも近いので、ちょっと時間がある時に寄ってみることをお薦めします。近くに駐車場もありました。

矢掛本陣横の石井醤油

本陣もよいですが、少し離れたところにある、石井醤油の建物もとても良かったです。間口が狭くて、奥に深い京都の町屋風の建物で、とても奥が深いです。また、醤油桶の並ぶところもよいにおいがします。
早く行かないとあの風景がなくなるのではと心配です。
矢掛町は、そう簡単には、変わらないでしょうが・・・・・

展示物は、江戸時代の参勤交代のときに島津藩の人たちが大名行列時に、ここへ泊った時のものがたくさんあります。私が行った時には、普段は入れない、大名が座った座布団に座らせてもらえましたよ。

ガイドさんの案内を聞くべきです

オープン時間が10時から15時半に変更されていたため、前日見学出来ず朝10時から電車の時間があるので20分のみでしたが、ガイドさんが見えて上段の間などの解説をザッと聞くことが出来良かった。お話が面白いのでジックリ時間をかけて見て回りたいものです。

篤姫や西の大名が泊まった本陣

入場料は400円。ボランティアガイドの方が丁寧に説明くださいました。お部屋数も多いですが、御一行が多いとここだけでは泊まりきれなかったこともあるそう。外から敵が入ってきても大丈夫なように造られていたり、門も別にされていたり、上段の間には日本庭園がよく見え、ブドウとリスの立派な彫り込みがあったり、細かい説明もその時代を感じられ、とてもわかりやすかったです。
立派なお屋敷の奥には酒造業の様子もよくわかる展示がありました。ゆったり見て回れたので、入ってみてよかったです。
真ん中の土間の立派な造りも好きでした。

今日は祖母生誕の地である矢掛観光に行ってきました。目的地に着くと旧街道が通行止めになっていたので聞いてみると、やかげ流しびなを開催しており通りで舞踊が始まっていました。ながしびな観光の後に寄りましたが、徳川家定の正室「篤姫」が宿泊した由緒ある家だそうです。入って観ていると団体のガイドさんの説明がはじまったので聞きながら観光したため予定より長時間滞在しましたが、想像していたより中も広く見所が沢山あり良かったです。入場料は一人400円てした。

大名が使用する間や正門、旧酒屋の倉庫や台所部分に展示してあるのをガイドの説明で見せてもらえます。大河ドラマの篤姫のポスター貼ってあって、薩摩からの輿入れのときに泊まったんじゃないかなー、との説明がありました。きっと大河やってたときには観光客がたくさん来てたかもしれませんが、今はあんまり訪問客はいませんでした。見せてもらえない部分が一部あって、東京かどこかに住んでるここの持ち主が戻ってくるときに使ってるらしいです。てことは今現在も「使用できる」状態ってことですよね。古い建物なのに・・

豪商の豪邸

石井家は矢掛で一番の豪商で、代々本陣を務めていました。本陣は参勤交代で江戸と国元を行き来する大名や公家、幕府役人の宿泊や休憩の場です。1,000坪もの敷地に立派な屋敷を構えています。宿場町として栄えた街の歴史的シンボルです。
