If you are in the Matsue area there is a possibility to visit the Oki Islands. I do recommend Nishinoshima Island particularly the wonderful Kuniga Coast! A ferry is leaving from Shichirue (choose the terminal towards the Japanese sea there are two terminals for ferries to OKi Islands). The Ferry is leaving at 9:30 you need to be at the... More

On our our second day of walking, this time we walked to the Kuniga Coast to see from shore what we saw by tour boat our first day. We walked to see the Candle stick, Elephant and frog (the Tenjokai Stacks) and the Tsutenkyo Arch, then out to the tide pools for a closer look at these rocks, then up past... More

The views were amazing. Flowers and wild horses were abundant, and the facilities are good (toilets and resting points). It can be reached by bike, car or local bus (infrequent). It can also be walked to from Urago (few km walk on a not so busy road.)

This beautiful walk can be combined with Matengai cliffs for a lovely loop on foot from Urago. Well marked, clean toilets, picnic spots. Amazing views of the coastline with peaceful cows and horses grazing. Few tourists. What more could you want?

The pictures at the tourism board did not do this place justice. As we find out for most of our travels in Japan. You need to be there to feel the serenity and magic of the place. Horses and cows grazing around you, it was almost surreal. The clouds a wispy beautiful sight. Crystal clear waters sparkling. We hiked up... More

We took a boat tour to look at the views and check out the sea caves. The weather was really overcast so it was hard to get good photos, but the views were still breathtaking and dramatic. The tour is all in Japanese, but it's still worth it. We went inside one of the bigger sea caves and we were... More

I came here on my own in October 2014, and got the bus over from the town. This is honestly one of the most beautiful places I have been to. I walked up from the bottom of the cliff, going past the rocky inlets and the wonderful 'Bridge to Heaven'. Walking up past the grazing cows and horses, the view... More

Besides the amazing views, the wild horses and cows make it even more exciting (just make sure to watch your step). I did this as a solo hike and I'm glad I took my time with it, since there were a lot of different angles at which to enjoy the views, and it was an energizing experience. Side note, Softbank... I was by myself and only one tour guest (without extra fee). A fisherman joined the tour. He caught sea urchins and treated me with them: fresh from the sea! The sea was very clear and a view was wonderful. But it was a bit chilly so a rented wet suit was helpful. I would also like to add that... More

I took visitors from Russia, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand here. They all said "Is this really Japan?" because of the amazing scale of the coast and the impressive nature. Cows and horses grazed around us in the nearby fields. We sat here for hours enjoying the view, watching birds fly above us, until the sun set over the... More
