A great tour
Nov 2020 • Friends
We spent all day discovering Okuizumo's landscape, history and culture through various activities. Besides experiencing the beautiful nature in Oni no Shitaburui gorge and Obara dam, for the first time, we learned to make Okuizumo's soba. Generally, Okuizumo is an ideal destination for people who want to get away from the cities' hustle and bustle.

Let's make yummy soba
Nov 2020
The Okuizumo Tourism Association knows everything tourists need. I especially liked the fact that the guides were very respectful of their guests. I have fond memories of returning to my homeland. For example, I went to a local family and was taught how to make soba.

Okuizumo is a very beautiful place. I love the onino shitaburui gorge most, there're big rocks and white streams, you can enjoy forest. The village is also peaceful, you can enjoy the foot spring for free.

The view of landscape is still on its best and natural. This place was a little bit rural, but complement with beautiful views which are relaxing. I went there for one-day trip with my, accompanied with local guides which were very kind and friendly, gave more information related with Okuizumo. I think I should explore more the beauty of this place in another time.

a wonderful tour

A wonderful trip that I have never experienced. Two kind guides were guiding for me at Okuizumo. We went to the hills to see the big bridge. The landscape there was so beautiful. And we went to eat delicious noddles. I could feel Japanese culture deeply. After that we went to the museum and a guesthouse. We were talking actively at that house. Very nice memories and I want to go there again!!!

Felt the history and saw the future here
Oct 2020 • Friends
Find your Sanin in Okuizumo. Thanks huber for your well arranged guidance.@sanin_stagram I found the beauties of Okuizumo and definitely attracted by it. I felt the legend history and saw the future here. Before the trip I only know about Izumo shrine or Matsue in Shimane prefecture. Okuizumo? Where is it? 😆 In the one day trip, we went to #おにのしたぶるい gorge and tried Japanese #osake in Okuizumo. For lunch our local guide take us to a really famous soba 🍜 restaurant #一風庵 we tried their special menu yubasoba which I haven’t seen before. What attracted me most is tataranoie, which is a Japanese styled house with above 250 years history. The view from the house is what I will never ever forget! I learned history of tatarabata field and moved by the wisdom of farmers here. They are conducting SDGs by their hand to protect the hometown they love ❤️ Takeshi san is one of the kindest hosts I ever seen. We are lucky to make onigiri 🍙 with the rice 🌾 they grow in the field in front of the house. #にたまいI definitely want to go there again, and I recommend Okuizumo to all of you. Thanks our lovely guide Aisa @aisa_choco and Sachiyo for introducing this lovely place to us. And fahmida for your great company.

Beautiful Landscape of Okuizumo
Oct 2020
A day well spent in Okuizumo and I wonder if we should've stayed longer actually. We spent the whole day to know more about Okuizumo's heritage which lies not only inside a museum, but also sprinkled on its nature. The places that we visited are:
1) Obara Dam, Located in the mountainous part of Okuizumo, this dam, which was completed in 2010, has primary functions as flood control structure as well as freshwater dam. This dam boasts 90m height, making it one of the largest I've ever seen.
2) Okuizumo Tatara Sword Museum. Tatara, a steelmaking method, has flourished in Okuizumo since the 8th century. Okuizumo, which lies in the mountains area of Chugoku, has abundant amount of iron sand, that even 80% of the iron used throughout Japan was produced here during the first half of the 19th century. This museum introduces all-you-have-to-know-about Tatara method along with the importance of Okuizumo in ancient time. A sword making demonstration could be observed as well on a specified schedule.
3) Lunch with Yuba Udon in Junsoba Ippu-an. uba (aka tofu skin) is made from a film forms on the surface of boiled soymilk. Here they served Yuba with a moderate chunk of wasabi on top of it, creating a delicious mix of tasteful soy milk and the 'brain-kicking' taste of Wasabi.
4) Exploring Oni no Shitaburui Gorge. we explored deep into the lush forest that follows along a river full of big stones and beautiful gorge. There are so many beautiful spots to take photo here and outdoorsy person would really like to give this place a visit I think.
5) Tataranoie Terraced Rice Field. Unfortunately we only spent a short amount of time here due to our tight schedule, but this place is good spot to see sunset. I'll be glad if I have the chance to camp here on summer though.
From a traveler point of view, It is actually much better to include Okuizumo as part of a bigger tour to Matsue and Izumo. It is mostly because the public access that is still unconvenient in this area, as far as I know (CMIIW), especially to get around to each of the tourist attraction in Okuizumo. However the beauty of the nature and especially, personally for me, new friends that I made there make enough reason to visit Okuizumo again in the future. Although this place is quiet Inaka, I think it has sufficient potential to attract tourists that have interest in nature and outdoor stuffs, as well as history perhaps.

我很喜欢今天的鬼の吊橋,还有岛根有名的荞麦面,我们的导游kazue和aisa也非常热情,给我们讲了很多关于岛根的文化和历史,我们一起拍照,聊天,非常开心。真的很感谢他们。
I like today's Oni no Shitaburui gorge and Himeno Soba Yukarian in Okuizumo. Our tour guides Kazue-san and Aisa-san are also very enthusiastic. They told us a lot about the culture and history of Okuizumo. We took pictures and chatted together. We were so happy.I really appreciate them.

A nice experience
Oct 2020
A great experience in Okuizumo, where we not only visited the Okuizumo Tatara Sword Museum and the Oni no Shitaburui Gorge, but we could also visit the Japanese traditional house, talk with the local residents, make rice balls, and watch their performance. Thank you very much for an interesting tour.
