　かつてＪＲ名和駅は季節駅だったという。名和神社と名和公園の桜が満開の時季だけ列車が臨時停車した。娯楽が少ない時代、花見はそれだけ一大事だったのだろう。満開時、駅から上る坂は桜のトンネルとなり、公園の入り口にいざなう。少し高台から日本海をバックに、あるいは大山をバックに花見が楽しめる公園だ。大型連休はツツジもきれいだ。
