雨が降っていたのか中は見ることが出来ませんでしたが、杉の巨木に囲まれた落ち着きのある風情でした。修復工事を重ねているものの大山近辺の寺院としては最古のものだそうです。

大山寺に向かう途中、大山寺の南側に建つ圓流院とこちらの阿弥陀堂を訪ねました。圓流院の少し下の方に、舗装していない、数台の車を停めることができる駐車場を見つけ、そこに車を停めました。
圓流院からは、杉の大木が連なっている参道を上っていきます。ゆるやかな傾斜の階段が続いている参道を上りきると阿弥陀堂がありました。森の中のお堂は、とても清楚なたたずまいに感じました。

それほどのものとは感じられなかったけど。確かに縁起と由緒は素晴らしいがわたし的には単なる古いお堂、くらいにしか見えなかったけど・・・。

平安時代に創建され、大山寺に現存する寺院の中では最古の建築物だそうです。大山正面登山道を少し東側に外れたところ、大きな杉やブナの木に囲まれた鬱蒼とした森の中にあります。建物も本尊の阿弥陀如来も国の文化財に指定されています。残念ながら、訪れた時ちょうど改修工事中で参拝することができませんでした。2017年末には工事は終了するようです。

大山の夏山登山口から少し登ったところにある。古い石段を登った先にあるお堂は荘厳な雰囲気に包まれている。あたりは杉の巨木が立ちならび、いかにも霊場という感じ。かつては更に多くの堂宇があったらしい。

蒜山高原から大山寺に向かう途中、大山寺の支院である圓流院と、阿弥陀堂に立ち寄ってみました。
まず始めに訪れた圓流院からは、杉の大木が素敵な参道を登っていきます。その参道が、風情があって、とてもいい感じでした。ちょっと寂れた感じのお堂も素敵なたたずまいでした。

あいにく雨でかつ修復中でしたが、正面に立って建物の構造を見ることが出来ました。本尊阿弥陀仏は特定の日のみの御開帳のようです。まっすぐ続く参道が綺麗です。
