There are two monuments at the station and one is in English and Japanese depting the first American ship that visited Japan in 1791 (USS Lady Washington) well before Admiral Parry arrived and attempted to open up Japan. The second is one assumes a stone structure depicting the fact that the Kushimoto Station is the station most south in the island of Honshu. The most likely entry point into Kushimoto is the train station and the statues are in the center of the car park directly outside the station front
