We have spent 3 days there with our one year old daughter and my wife. The sand is completely white, the beach is clean, lots of small playgrounds next to the beach, the water is transparent with big fishes. Lots of public free footbath next to the beach or in the city, with volcanic hot water. A supermarket as well... More

So the story is that the original beach washed away during a storm or kaiju attack or something equally bad. Since Shirahama is a beach town you must have a beach, so they arranged for sand to be shipped in from Australia. Now, I can neither confirm or deny the veracity of this, but I love the story. Shirahama is... More

This crescent beach (town) about 2+ hours South of Osaka at the tip of the Wakayama Prefecture was a nice off-season getaway for us. We went on a Summer'y sunny Saturday in October and the beach was nearly empty - maybe 100 people in total. The water was warm and it was a lovely day for a swim. This beach... More

We came in mid Sept and the weather was very warm and humid so lovely to swim in the warm-ish water. Great that there were no crowds like in August!

We went mid September, and I guess that is the off season. The place is a ghost town, kind of creepy. But, the beach is mint! Super clean area. There are signs everywhere, and hourly announcements, telling you no smoking / pets / garbage / camping / fires.

Beautiful white sanded beach in Wakayama. The sand is said to have been brought in from Australia. The water is clear and nice and it's been nice for a swim in both late May and early September. Will go back if I have the chance!

Theres a beach showers, some small restaurants, lockers, dressing rooms and toilets. Beach is clean, spacious and free except for the coin lockers. And crazy? Late morning aftet 9.00... More

During our stay in shirahama we went to shirahama beach every morning for our early swim. Its so relaxing and the sun isnt hot, it wont exhaust you after swimming and youll still have energy to roam around the city afterwards. Theres a conbini nearby, some restaurants, coin lockers, dressing rooms and toilets. Its clean and free except for the... More

I really enjoy spending time here, just chill and enjoy. The beaches here are very well maintained, no one scattered their trash, it's all properly disposed at designated area. Mini marts selling smacks, ice creams, snacks & beach stuff all around. There's even a few free foot bath (hot springs), nearby the beach. There's also a few outdoor bath available,... More

Great white sand in a half moon bay. Clear water washing the sand from under your feet. The sand is so fine and white hence the name Shira. Good many eateries along the road behind the beach so lunch is just a breeze away.
