Very romantic at sunset. Some nice views from the lobster restaurants in front of the rock. Can get pretty busy at sunset when photographers are trying to get a shot of the sun shining through the hole in the center of the rock.

Engetsuto is a small island known for its arch, and is located along the coastal drive in Wakayama.
There is a small parking lot by the side of the road for visitors to park their cars so that they can walk across to the other side of the road where they can snap pictures of the island.
It is pretty surreal to have a piece of nature in the middle of the sea, and makes for a good photo opportunity.

It's a nice rock formation to admire and if you are there at sun set you can get an amazing shot of the sun trough the hole in the middle of the rock(if the whether allows it). Got some great shots and a clear sky for the sun set till the very end when some clouds got in the way of the sun just as it was going in to the hole. It was still a great place for taking pictures

We were trying to find the best location to view this but there was no specific address that we can input into google map. But if you drive along the Shirahama coast, you will see the sign with the picture of Engetsuto. Just follow it and you'll see a car park where you can park and cross the road to view the sun setting. There's also a flight of steps that can lead you to the rock coast. Good spot to take pictures.

I didn't go during sunset but the morning. It was slippery while walking toward the sea during low tide. You better wear suitable shoes with it.

Please check what time the sunsets cause you ;ll want to see the sun slowly dropping exactly into the point in between the rocks. Our guide was super responsible. Need to also exercise caution when taking photograph as the area is near the road and many people tend to crowd around , often spilling out onto the roads.

It is a very good spot for photo taking, especially when you are on the jetty. You can also fish there - same as what locals do.

We've spent so much time to visit the temples in wakayama, so we missed the magic 5 moment. what a shame! When we arrived there, it was already 6:30, everywhere was dark. Stars were so bright to been seen. We took few photos and then went back to Hotel.
Next day, before we moved to another destination, we went back to Engetsuto.
The view is still spectacular, deep blue sea, sunshine with wind.
Such a beautiful picture!
I will go back one day again to see the Magic Moment!

Engetsu Island is about 400 meters from the coast. If you want to take photo with the background of this sandstone arch, you have to come in the morning; the rest of the day would be impossible because you are always facing with the sun.
Tips for those driving to this place is not advisable to park at the fee based parking area, bearing the sign, “Parking area for Engetsuto Island”. You can continue the drive for about 10 seconds, at the turn of the road, coming up with several visible free parking bays, offering better view to the arch.
