It is an authentic temple which is surrounded by mysterious and sacred forest. It is established by about 800 years ago to pray for Minamotono Sanetomo, the Japanese Shogun, who was assassinated by his nephew.

We were surprised how huge this temple and the surrounding grounds are. It's immaculately kept and quite stunning. The day we visited there were no other people around so we were able to look at it without feeling pressured. It's location is stunning on the side of a hill. Huge trees in the grounds show just how old the temple is. There is a shop selling lucky charms and other talisman but it wasn't open while we were there. The toilets are clean and free. You do need to walk up a few stairs and a stone ramp but it's not high or difficult. Parking is free down the bottom. I'm not sure if you normally have to pay to go in as the ticket office was not open, we left a donation. A lovely place off the beaten track!
