This was my first time at Mt. Koya and the temple lodgings, but the head priest and everyone else were very kind and I had a comfortable stay. They were very accommodating and took great care of the guests. It is a quaint temple, so the facilities are not new, but it was clean and well-maintained, so it was comfortable. The room was too big for a single person to stay in. The location is convenient, just a little way from the bus stop. There is also a convenience store nearby. The portions were so large that I couldn't believe it was vegetarian food, and above all, it was very delicious. I was looking forward to mealtime. During the morning service, the head priest gave us a talk about Buddhism and Mt. Koya in an easy-to-understand way. We were shown the inside of the main hall, which is normally off-limits, and we were also able to see the principal image up close. The talk and sutra chanting were both thorough, and that alone was well worth the time. We were also offered a memorial service, which I was very moved by. It was a truly valuable experience to be able to spend time in peace and tranquility in a calm atmosphere. The morning service and vegetarian food are truly worth it!
