You can tell when an attraction is where only – or at least almost only – the locals go: The TripAdvisor reviews will probably be mostly if not all in the local language. Google does make an effort to translate so you can still get some idea of what’s on offer.
And that’s exactly the case at the Tajiri Ocean Community Centre, parent of the Tajiri Port Sunday Morning (mostly seafood) Market, which runs every Sunday 7am to noon.
This is where local fishermen sell what they just caught. And don’t be surprised if you don’t see any Westerners here.
You can also take a 90-minute trip on a working fishboat out into Osaka Bay where you help haul up the nets to see what has been caught – e.g. octopus, squid, sea cucumber, eel, various fairly small fish. Back on shore the fishermen then clean your catch for you to barbecue in the bbq pits provided, supplemented by a seafood-plus platter from the restaurant in the complex.
Added extra: You get a quick trip across the Bay to just off the end of the Kansai International Airport where the big jets coming in low to land roar in right over your head.
And if you want to spend a while trying your luck with your own fishing line, there are several dozen enclosed areas which the fishermen have filled with fish early in the day where anglers can have a go.

Hi Mike, I was wondering where exactly this fishing trip is? Also is there an opportunity to help the fishermen on a trawler/vessel? I'm working on a UK TV show and I'm struggling to find any direct links? Any advice or knowledge would be very useful.
Thanks
