About
Bijodaira is the starting point for the highland bus that connects Murodo. There is virgin forest where you can see large trees of cedar and beech, and you can enjoy a walk. There is a cedar that is big enough to fit in a tree, making it a photo spot. It's a popular place for bird watching, but you need to be careful about bear.

The transfer station of the Li-Shan mountain cable car and the Li-Shan high-rise bus, due to the height has been close to the altitude of a thousand meters, came here in late July of the summer, there is a cool feeling immediately, there is absolutely no heat in the city, very comfortable!
The surroundings are also very open, and you can see all the natural views from the outside.
The instructions to wait for the ride are very clear, for those who are going to Mithra, it is easy to know where to wait!

This is the first transfer station on the Toyama side of the Alpine Route. Here you change from the cable car to a bus. From here to Murodo, you take the only regular bus on the Alpine Route. On the way to Murodo, you will pass through Snow Valley, which is famous from April to June. You can also enjoy seeing the Toyama region at the foot of the mountain, and if you're lucky, you can see a sea of clouds.

We started our Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route 3 weeks ago. We started from Tokyo to Toyama in the early morning. Once we reached JR Toyama Station, we walked over to Dentetsu-Toyama Station next to it where we handed over our Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route tickets which we bought in Shin-Osaka few days earlier and started our journey.
We reached Tateyama Station in 60+ minutes from Dentetsu-Toyama station. We had to wait for approx. 20~25 minutes in Tateyama station before getting into cable car which took us to Bijodaira. While we are waiting the cable car, try get in queue as soon as possible but make sure you check the departure time before started queue.
We both didn't do this : We were busy walking around Tateyama Station and took pictures. In the end, we both were in the final 25% of the queue which made it impossible for us to get good spot in the cable car. My advise : Try securing a spot in the right hand side of the cable car since it offers the best possible view once it starts ascending.
As far as taking pictures of the cable car, you may do so once you arrive at Bijodaira. Both of me and my wife decided to skip walking around Bijodaira during our visit since we were told by a Japanese that the area surrounding Bijodaira was closed that day due to heavy snowfall the day before. We were waiting in the queue but we took the wrong seat position in the bus.
Once we were in the bus that took us to Murodo, we sat in the right hand side of the bus. However, we realized that for a better view during our visit in late May, the best seating position would be in the left hand side of the bus in the direction of its driving as someone would be able to see more unobstructed views during the whole journey to Murodo.
The whole journey from Bijodaira to Murodo was really interesting as the bus ride offered nice mountain view covered with lots of snow. Although someone may find the same experience in other countries but once the bus started entering snow wall corridor, it offered a different experience which made our journey different than the other ones we both had visited even during my past experience traveling the world for more than 30 years.

We really did not have much fun taking the ropeway as there were jammed packed with people! We could not even breath easily in the car! Way too many people! They should limit the number of people in the car to enable us enjoy the view!

It is impossible to miss Bijodaira as it's part of Alpine Route. The scene from viewing deck is so gorgeous. We were here in April but it was so foggy we couldn't take picture of the surrounding. We could see the Alps covered in snow though.

This is the Tateyama Cable Car, the first stage journey to the Snow Wall. From Tateyama station, this cable car will bring you up to Bijodaira station. The climb is steep and you would want to be right at the front in order to have a good view. This is quite difficult as it is always very pack with tourists. The ride is only about 7 minutes.

Arriving at the interchange between the Tatayama Cable Car and the Tatayama Highland Bus around 09:00am on a cloudy and overcast day, there was about 30-mins before departure of the Highland Bus. With a tight schedule in aiming to get to the Kurobe Dam and back to Toyama by late afternoon, I elected to join the queue (albeit short) for the bus rather than look around the station further.
At that point I noticed the four TV's showing LiveCam coverage from various points along the Alpine Route. Although many of the screens were largely obliterated by the low cloud prevalent at that time of the morning, it was interesting to note the temperature gradient between the highest point; Murodo (2,450m : 12.8C) and the Kurobe Dam (1,454m : 17.1C). From the moment we dropped out of the cloud, descending on the Tatayama Ropeway, a fine day ensued with superb visibility for the entire return journey.

We followed the medium loop to have a cool walk in the forest. We were blessed that it was a bright and sunny so we could stroll through the primeval forest. The forest contains 1000year old cedars and beech trees and 60 species of native birds.. Long ago it was rumored that women who trespassed into the forests of Mt Tateyama would be transformed into trees trapping them on the mountain. Hence the area is named, Bijodara - forest of beautiful women. The giant cedars make the forest a famous spot for forest therapy.
