This is the first stop on the Alpine route, if you are travelling from Omachi. We arrived early in the morning and it wasn't as busy as we had expected.

This dam is very impressive and has some breathing views to behold all around it. It is surrounded by mountains and a couple of waterfalls as well as a deep green lake being formed by it. There are historical placards that show the construction and explain different aspects of the job. There is a gift shop and a couple of... More

Of the attractions on Tateyama Kurobe Route, I personally think Kurobe Dam is the most spectacular of all. The water at the Dam has a hue of bluish green. Since I went there in the month of May, the flood gate is still shut. Do spare at least half an hour to slowly explore the place. There's an observatory deck... More

Visited this as part of the Alpine trail route (see Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route on Trip Advisor). Set between snow capped mountains, with the river meandering into the distance it really is a sight to behold.

We walked leisurely to view the mountains and the lake. We didn't walk 2xx stairs to the new observatory point. When we were there, no no water discharge and boat trip. To get there, we took tunnel trolleybus and then cable car OR vice versa depending on where you travel from.

I visited this dam as part of the alpine route tour. I took the cable car to the top. The view was beautiful, with emerald water as foreground and mountain as background. One can walk along the dam leisurely to admire the massive structure and serene scenery. Great photo opportunity for your travel memories.

Straightforward walk along the Kurobe Alpine Route. Spring had no water discharge. Strong winds made some viewing areas inaccessible.
