城跡、と言っても、石垣などが現存しているわけでもなく、その姿を想像するものはありません。よほどの歴史好き、城好きの人なら、いいのかも。

都心から1時間圏にある趣のある「秘境駅」と適度に整備された「山城」

本佐倉城址の最寄り駅となる京成電鉄大佐倉駅は都心から一時間圏内とは思えない駅、周囲は市街化調整区域に指定されているためか目立った商店もなく「秘境駅」的な雰囲気です。
この「秘境駅」から徒歩で行く場合、京成線の線路を左に沿って東山虎口から入場するのがメインルートかと。東山虎口までは15分程度で到達です。また途中で右折、麻賀多神社入り口前を通過、道なりに進み突き当りを右折するとセッテイへ抜ける道に到達します。ここまでも駅から徒歩15分程度です。
城内は適度に整備されており、スニーカーで十分散策できます。ただしセッテイだけは他のエリアと異なり少々管理がおろそかになっているところもありましたのでご注意ください。それでも全体としては適度に整備がなされており、山城の自然感も十分保たれていたことから、1時間半程度の散策も大変満足できるものでした。
参考までに、東山馬場の駐車場（無料）に簡易トイレが設置されています。また本佐倉城は「続日本の100名城」に指定されていますが、そのスタンプは大佐倉駅（と酒々井町役場近くにある公民館）に設置されており、城内にはありませんので、念のため。

続日本百名城 -本佐倉城-

地元の雄千葉氏が拠点としたお城、中世の城郭ですが整備されていて往時の面影が残っているお城でした。城跡からは、干拓前の印旛沼が近距離で見えたと思いますが今でも印旛沼までの水田地帯が広がって見えて景色の良いお城だと思いました。

天守閣などは残存しておらず、広い敷地に当時の歴史がしのばれました。哀愁を感じ、歴史を感じるスポットでした。

今はあまり見れません

台風の被害で一部立ち入れない所あり。成田街道側から行けば簡単に行けます。山城好きには良いですね。城山、奥の宮は入れますが、セッテイ山には行けませんでした。草を刈ったりもう少し整備して欲しいです。もっと沢山の人に来てもらいたいですね！

山城の醍醐味を存分に味わえる

佐倉は江戸時代に佐倉藩が治めた城下町。当然のことながら佐倉城というお城もありました。しかし現在佐倉城跡として残っているお城の他にもう１つの佐倉城があるのです。それが本佐倉城。下総の有力な豪族、千葉氏の拠点となる巨大な山城です。
千葉氏の本拠地として発展した本佐倉城は街道筋の酒々井宿なども城域に取り込み、総構えの様相を呈した巨大な城郭を作り上げました。そして後北条氏の支配下に置かれた後、徳川の世になり廃城となりました。
町の中心部からは離れていることもあり、当時のままの土塁や空堀が見事に残っており、山城の醍醐味を味わうことができます。案内図なども整備されているので見学しやすいお城だと思います。

京成本線の大事佐倉駅から農道を徒歩15分ほどで、虎口跡に到着します。虎口跡からは、案内標識を見ながら、城郭内を散策。東山馬場に月星紋盾が建てられています。東山馬場の近くの小高い土手がビューポイントになっていて、遠く筑波山まで見渡せます。空堀や土塁がよく残っています。

整備され登城しやすいが城までの道中は狭い

各郭から城山まではきちんと整備されているので歩きやすい。駐車場から登城を初めてすぐの東山馬場には千葉氏の家紋である月星が描かれた盾群が置かれている。そこから少し歩くと城山や奥山へ続くが、やや急な坂になっている。郭自体は草原化しているが、案内板もポツポツとあり、割りと親切な印象ではある。縄張り好きでない限りは、作事もないのでそれほど面白くはないだろう。駐車場は広く、きちんと舗装もされているが、そこに至るまでの道は農道が基本。ナビに頼って行った場合、もしかするととんでもない道を指定されるかも知れない。「これは…無理なのでは？」と思うような道だ。実際、左右のタイヤが同時にアスファルトに乗らず、クルマのセンサーは終始鳴りっぱなしだ。気を付けたし。なお、続日本100名城のスタンプは少し離れた酒々井町中央公民館にある。正面入り口から入って、右斜め前のトイレの前だ。本佐倉城関連のパネルもある。続日本100名城に選出されたことをお祝いしていた。

きれいに整備されています。

駐車場までの道は狭いため注意が必要ですが、駐車場はキレイに整備されていました。曲輪内の道も歩きやすく、きちんと保存と公開をして頂きありがたいです。
