立派な仁王門をくぐり、長い葛折りの石段を登ると、崖の下の本堂と滝があります。石段は300段近くありますが、所々に句碑が奉納されていて、眺めながら登ると、さほど苦にならないかな。私が訪れた５月下旬は、青葉紅葉と紫陽花もあり爽やかでした。境内には意外と建物が多く結構楽しめました。滝は、水量は少なかったのですが高低差があり荘厳です。
なお西奥ノ院への山道は立ち入り禁止になっていました。

秘密の絶景ポイントです🤫
良く整備された杉林を一時間ほど歩くと山頂です。山深く静かなので、熊鈴かラジオが必携です。

秩父札所巡り【秩父三十四箇所】の三十一番、鷲窟山（しゅうくつさん）観音院です。
仁王門から約300段の階段を上ると、観音院、迫力のある大岩壁、聖浄の滝、弘法大師が彫ったと伝えられている磨崖仏など、いくつか見所があります。
山の中の霊場なので、木々の緑がたいへん美しく、とても静かで清い空気を感じられました。
秩父から観光で訪れる場合は、山門前に駐車場がありますので、車で行くことをおすすめします。
公共交通機関はバスしかありません。西武鉄道・西武秩父駅からバスで約50分ほどの【栗尾】で下車、徒歩で山門まで45分、山門から本堂まで坂道と石段を15分登るので、小さいお子様やお年寄り、体力のない方にはちょっと難しいかもしれません。

日本一大きい4ｍの石像の仁王尊が立つ仁王門をくぐると本堂まで約２９０段の階段を登ります。
観音堂の背景に立つ巨大な岩、岩から流れ落ちる聖浄の滝、
爪堀りの磨崖仏など見どころがあります。

かなり急な階段を登ります。
小さなお寺ですが、滝や弘法大師が爪で彫ったといわれる無数の仏様が彫刻された岩肌など、見どころがいろいろあります。

階段を296段上がったところに本堂があります。階段はとても急でかなりしんどいですが、上がると別世界が広がるのでとても良い所です。健脚な方は行く価値あると思います。

友人の先達で31番観音院巡礼参拝
顔色の悪い小坊主さんの立て看板に案内されて、境内までの山登りです。
「熊が出ました」の看板に驚かされながら、路傍のに咲く紫陽花にも驚かされました。
境内は整然としていて、先ずは鐘撞のご挨拶を…
納経をすましての参拝の仕草は、滝音の中、すべて岩碧に反響して聞こえます。
ご住職の穏やかなお話がとても良い思い出になりました。

山門に石造りの大きな仁王様高さ4メートルをくぐる。296段の階段を上ると、大岩壁と聖浄の滝に圧倒されます。磨崖仏など見どころ満載なことに、驚かされました。
