This hot spring facility is mainly used by elderly local residents rather than tourists and hikers in Chichibu. However, there is no exclusive atmosphere for tourists and hikers, and both men and women of all ages can enjoy the natural hot spring in a relaxed atmosphere.
The hot springs are divided into indoor and outdoor (open-air) baths, with two types of hot springs in the indoor baths and one type in the open-air baths (one of the indoor baths has a partial jet bath). The temperatures are both lukewarm, so even if you soak in the baths for a long time, you will not get very hot. Because the spa is located in the mountains of Mt. Muko, it's cool outside in summer, but in winter, it may be quite cold when you first use the outside space before soaking hot spring. On the other hand, if you go outside after a long soak in the hot spring, you will feel comfortable in the cool air.
Saunas, on the other hand, are small and the temperature is quite high. It should be noted that some people may experience considerable pain in their earlobes or windpipe. Furthermore, the floor of the indoor spa is quite slippery. Especially children are quite likely to slip and cause serious injury if they run.
In addition to the hot springs, there are various other facilities, including a rest area (two locations, one without reservations and one requiring reservations), a game center, and a souvenir shop. The rest space that can be used without a reservation is also the diner, and while it's basically necessary to order dishes and drinks to use the space, it's not necessarily necessary to do so. Other events that may be held in the rest areas that can be used without reservations include plays by theater troupes that are active in the neighborhood and karaoke events.
Most visitors come to the facility by car, but some walk from Seibu-Chichibu or Ohanabatake stations as well as Yokoze station (it is only about 3 km away, so it can be used like a hike). Be aware, however, at night, the area is pitch-dark with few streetlights.

We went there with a party of five people before our climb to Mount Tomokori. Unfortunately, we were a bit late so that we arrived after the admission time to the Onsen (this was because we didn't realize that that they did not sell us a ticket on an earlier train). But then something happened, what you would definitely not expect in Japan: They let us foreigners in to the onsen, although there were only 30 minutes left before they closed. And this was a really, really great experience. It is a nice place to be and we really enjoyed staying there overnight in their rooms which are also nice. We also enjoyed the breakfast. Overall, a four star place, but because of this service, I give them five.
