Other than golfers and trekkers, most folks who come to Ogawa-machi make their way to the Saitama Traditional Crafts Center. Even the Emperor and Empress have come. It's many things rolled into one: a place where you can make your own Japanese paper or watch the pros do it, a gallery with various small-but-good exhibits running simultaneously, a permanent display of the traditional crafts and businesses of Ogawa-machi, and an excellent (though a little pricy) gift shop. TIP: If you're a local, or can lay your hands on the Ogawa-machi newsletter, you and your group can enter free of charge, saving Y300 per person.
Across the plaza from the display area is the cafeteria and coffee shop. They're in the back, beyond the farmers' market sales area. Delicious freshly-made buckwheat noodles (soba) and thicker wheat noodles (udon) are served for lunch in a spacious dining room. TIP: For just Y250, between 10-11:00 am and 2-4:00 pm, there's an all-you-can-drink time during which you serve yourself from soft drink or coffee machines.
It's easy to get there and get back to Ogawa-machi Station using the local bus. It's just a few minutes' ride in each direction and both bus stops are close to the center itself. Take the Park Hill bus and get off at the stop named after the center.
