If you drive up past the tram entrance, there is a big parking lot and a wonderful 2km hike up the mountain. You get WAY better 360 degrees views than you would with the tram. I highly recommend. In early spring, there was still some snow on the trail so I wish I had hiking boots rather than sneakers.

If you like roller coasters, this is for you, there are a few othe types of rides here but the focus is definately on roller coasters. The area is very nice but full on tourist place with many restaurants, etc.I took teen agers there and they had a great time.

This is NOT your first destination in Japan.

It's no Fuji or Asakusa. If you are looking for uber-Japanese-looking, tourist trap style place, you will be sorely disappointed. I'm already here for 3years+ and I'm done with famous tourist trap, my next stop is a beautiful secret spot like this.

What do you do here? You ride the ropeway up, hike to the top of the peak, smell phosphorous, hope it doesn't erupt, and take kickass photos.

This place easily tops Japanese's most beautiful autumn spot, in many polls. I didn't made that up. This is probably the most redeeming thing about the peak. Surrounding area is full of farms, family adventure theme-park, and so on.

Who would I recommend this to? Japanese who like hiking.
