Visited friends in Japan and they took us to Oarai Town. Great place to walk and look around, we spent a couple of hours around this area and walked their dogs.
Great views of the mountains in the distance, good if the weather is good.

This beach is fun in its own way. But Oarai Beach is just North a few KM's. It is next to the Oarai Aquarium. Use this number for your GPS. 0292 67 5111. It is for surfers and shell hunters. Watch the rocks as they are slippery!

I have to say, at first glance I was left wondering when I first glanced Sun Beach. There were construction vehicles working on a project in between the parking lot and the sands, the ground had a fair share of debris, and the facilities had been closed for the season.

However, after relocating to a spot farther down the lot, I have to say that anything less than 5/5 would be selling my experience short. The parking is free, the views are staggeringly beautiful, and the water was the perfect temperature (for a guy like me who hails from the Northeastern US). My friend and I spent a good four hours taking in the sights and surf, and the atmosphere was incredible!

Oarai in September feels like a well kept secret, because of the many patrons to the beach, my party were the only foreigners. But that aside, I will be coming back for years because of the day I experienced here!

Huge free parking lot. You have to walk about 5 min. to the beach, but it is free! There is a toilet and few food stand on the weekends. Water was still cold but children can play on the beach. And when its low tide, you may catch some natural clams. There is an aquarium near by, too. So if the weather is not good, you can still have good time.
