We took our kids here for the morning and they loved it! All the exhibits have english names for the animals, which makes it easy for foreigners to enjoy.
The aquarium is reknown for their sharks and they have two massive tanks full of sharks of all different sizes and shapes, including some incredibly large sand tiger sharks. They also have a whole set of exhibits that showcase native fish off the Ibaraki coast which was cool to see. The kids loved the penguin show and there is also a seal/sea lion show that we didn't see. Upstairs they had an area for kids to touch sea life and a highlight was a tankful of little fish that cleaned dead skin off your hands when you dipped them underwater.
The gift shop was enormous and there were a couple of restaurants to enjoy as well.
All in all a fun and educational attraction that is great for families!

We spend 4hours here,after landing from Narita airport straight away drive through Oarai and managed to see the Dolphins shows at 12pm,nice late lunch after hanging around the aquarium with reasonable price and fresh Kaiden don.

海に面した絶好のロケーションで、建物はとても広く、展示物も非常に見やすいです。特に随所に階段式のベンチがあったりして、ゆっくり見ることもできます。
イルカショーも室内のため、雨の心配もなく、アシカショーも工夫が施されていて楽しいです。また子供連れにはうれしい、アスレチック（小学生未満）があり、トイレもすべて障害者用トイレにおむつを捨てるボックスや、ビニール袋も完備。ここまで至りりつくせりは、水族館で初です。文句なくNo.1の水族館でした。
I've never been to such a wonderful aquarium like this before!
Especially, I recommend to such a family which has small children.
This aquarium faces to the ocean and there is the wonderful national park near this aquarium. You might spend your time in a whole of day.
You can see the dolphin show inside the dome. Don't need to take an umbrella when go to this aquarium.
And also, you can see a lot kinds of Shark. You might enjoy if you like the shark :-)
Unfortunately, I couldn't see some signs in English. But if you like Japanese culture and people, don't hesitate to ask the staff in easy English or Japanese. They are very kind. They would help you.
And, You must go there by the car. You can go there by the train and bus but not convenience.

I went by car with my friends, for the first time we watched dolphin and sea lion attraction. guess what? it was so attractive and great. It was my first time watched the great attraction. Their attraction made me amazed. When the dolphins jumped and dived, the audiences got water splashed, and we love it. After that we looked around. You will find many sea animals here. there are many kinds of sharks, jellyfishes, marine plants, and etc. I recommend you to visit this place.

I've been to a fair number of aquariums, and this is definitely one of the best. Like most aquariums in Japan, there is little in the way of English signage, although you can usually get the names of the animals in any display. Huge sharks, a good variety of sea life, presented well. And the dolphin show was one of the best I've seen.

We went by public transport, train then bus which stop directly at the place. It's a huge aquarium, we were very impressed with the display and collection and management. It's entertaining and educational. It would be nice if the info on the display sign are in English, now it's only in Japanese. Lots of kids which make the place lively and fun. It can take you a whole day to spend. This is beyond our expectation, thumb up.

This was the 1st day trip of my Japan Tour which made my 1st impression awesome. This is such a big aquarium, huge tank made as natural habitat with enough space for each and every species. We spent more than 3 hours by capturing epic pictures of species.The cost line attached to this always provides breathtaking view if there is a clear weather. All in all this is an attractive place for kids and families. Highly recommended..

Definitely not the best one I’ve been to, but a truly unique one. Many from japan’s Local seas. Spent around 3 hours there. Had a great time with my parents.

There is so much to see and take in at this aquarium, from the Dolphin and Sea Lion shows to Sharks and other aqua species . My personal favourite, the puffins. You can spend a day as there is lots to see and no point in rushing. Enjoy lunch and snacks and make sure to grab souvenirs before leaving. Afterwards, if the weather is nice take a stroll along the coast line as the views are breathtaking.
