Takahata-machi is a small farming community in Yamagata prefecture that dates back hundreds of years. Hachimanjinja is two blocks from my house and I walk there everyday. The shrine is free and always open. Dec. 31th they light up the shrine only in the winter snow. Each season Hachimanjinja and park have something different to view. Bring you hiking shoes... More

I live one kilo from Hachimanjinja shrine and it is a great place to spend a little or a lot of time. Parking is free and so is the shrine. The shrine grounds have several walkways to enjoy the three ponds and great views. If you are into hiking you can start at Hachimanjinja shrine and hike up the mountain... More
