「北海のヒグマ」中川一郎は広尾町の出身です

　昭和の終わり近くには総理大臣候補でもあった「北海のヒグマ」の異名を持つ中川一郎。彼の記念館が、広尾町の豊似と言うと地区の国道沿いにありました。十勝が生んだ大代議士の功績は、道路の整備をはじめ、十勝中に及んでいます。そんな彼の功績と歴史を見てみたいと思い、中川一郎記念館に立ち寄ってみました。
　広い敷地に建つ重厚そうな建物でしたが、なんと閉館中でした。残念。

十勝の今があるのは中川一郎がいたから

　十勝の今があるのは中川一郎がいたからなんです。大穀倉地帯を走る農道でさえ、早くから舗装道路になったのも、彼がいたからだとか・・・
　そんな中川一郎の記念館が、広尾町の市街地の外れの国道沿いにありました。広い敷地の入り口にある「中川一郎記念館」と刻まれた黒くて大きな石は、豪快だった彼にふさわしいエントランスだと思いました。

中川さんは気骨な方だった

行けませんでした。たぶん近くを通ったので行きたかった！
生誕地はお参りして来ました。
帯広から襟裳に抜ける「天馬街道」の脇にぽつんと碑が建っていた。
記念館にも行きたかったが、通り過ぎてしまった。
中川先生は自民党の主流？に殺されたようなものだと、私は感じていた。
北海道生まれの、北海道思いの先生が左遷されるのは疑問だらけです。
合掌！

農林水産大臣を務めた自民党代議士

広尾町出身の自民党代議士で、豪快な性格から「北海のひぐま」と呼ばれていました。
福田内閣時代に農林水産大臣を務めた人物で、将来の総理大臣候補でもあったが、1983年1月に札幌パークホテルで心筋梗塞により亡くなり、当時、自殺説や他殺説が流れた記憶があります。
入館は無料で、館内は中川一郎氏の生涯や記念品など、思い出の品が展示されているほか、記念館の裏に銅像が建てられていました。

「北海のヒグマ」と呼ばれた、北海道広尾町出身の政治家中川一郎氏の記念館。豪放磊落な印象が強く残る人物である。館内は綺麗に整理されており、今でも地元の方に大事にされている感が窺えた。

ヒグマが出迎え

名前の通り、初代の農林水産大臣の中川一郎氏の記念館です。写真展示が主です。1983年に亡くなられましたので、もう30年ですね。敷地の半分はゲートボール場の一部です。玄関を入るとヒグマの剥製が迎えてくれます。そういえば中川氏は北海のヒグマとの綽名がありました。
入館は無料。
10Kmほど西に生家跡があり大きな栃ノ木と北海道には珍しい銀杏の木がありました。
