観光地化されていないのが魅力です。

この付近にある勇洞沼や生花苗沼と同じ海跡湖です。国道３３６号線から道道８９１号線に入り、海に突き当たったところが晩成温泉です。そこから右折して進んだところにあります。途中竪穴住居群がありますが、そのあたりに車を止めて、竪穴住居の穴があいている中を突き進むと沼全体を上から見渡す場所があります。少し分かりにくいですが、ここからの眺めは最高です。もちろん全く観光地化されておらず、みやげ物屋や駐車場やトイレなんてありません。

十勝ホロカヤントー竪穴群（遺跡）

現地の友人の案内で行きました。天候に恵まれホロカヤントウ沼と太平洋が輝いて見え、人工物がほとんど見えず、昔ここで生活していた人々の声が聞こえてくるようでした。竪穴式住居が一つ復元してあり、案内板もあります。無数に残る竪穴（くぼみ）が不思議な景観を作っています。考古学、埋蔵文化財が好きな人にお勧めします。ただし天候の影響を大きく受けますのでご留意を。

海が見える、人の影はない。
夕暮れの太陽がさんさんとてりつける。
一人、愛車を眺めてタバコを一服。

汽水湖であるため釣りが盛ん

太平洋に面する場所にある湖です。汽水湖で太平洋の水が常に入り込んでいます。そのため釣りに適しており、秋の鮭をはじめとしてワカサギ釣りなど一年を通じて釣りが盛んです。湖は高台のある展望台から眺めるのがおすすめです。

広大な十勝海岸湖沼群のひとつ

大規模に観光開発されてなく、自然のまま湿原が残っているのに加えて、場違いな団体客の来訪は少なく静かで、その筋には人気があるようです。なにより国道からの道路アクセスはしにくいようですが舗装道もあります。貴重なヨード泉質の晩成温泉が有名です。巨大シジミも漁れるようですが保護されています。野鳥や湿原を遠望するには絶好のフィールドです。ラムサール条約登録を準備中のようですが、キャパシティ以上の無秩序な到来や乱開発など弊害も懸念されます。縄文遺跡もあり、貴重な文化財が眠っているようですので大切にしたいものです。

渡り鳥の中間休憩場所なんですね！

大樹町の太平洋側に近い丘陵地帯を通っている国道３３６号線の、さらに海側にはいくつもの海跡湖があります。その中のひとつがホロカヤントウ沼です。
国道から、人家も全くない道を海に向かってしばらく下っていくと、晩成温泉がありました。そこから海岸線近くを西側に向かって進んだところに、ホロカヤントウ沼がありました。
このあたりを走っているとき、何度か、渡り鳥の編隊飛行を見ました。この沼が、彼らの中間休憩場所だったんですね。沼面には羽を休めている白鳥やカモの仲間たちがいました。

ハクチョウたちが羽を休めていました

　大樹町から、太平洋側を走る国道３３６号線で釧路方面に向かう途中、晩成温泉に向かう道を進み、晩成温泉を過ぎてさらに進んだ先に、ホロカヤントウ沼はありました。
　標識も看板もなくて、途中からせまい砂利道を進みます。向かう方向が違うことに気づいて、やっとのことで方向転換をして戻ります。道の曲がり具合から、このあたり（もっとも西側に当たるところ）だと判断して、車をそこに停め、熊笹に覆われた道なき道を登って行った先に、沼が現れました。
　沼は、太平洋に隣接していて、沼と海がわずかな陸地で隔てられていました。ちょうど渡りの季節なのでしょう、ハクチョウたちやガン（？）たちが羽を休めていました。
　沼に上ってくる途中、竪穴住居跡のくぼ地がたくさんあり、車を停めたところには、復元された竪穴住居もありました。

残念。冬季は道がなくなります。

んーん残念。
冬季通行止で見に行けませんでした。
遠目に見える沼の様子は、ほぼ氷の状態です。
白鳥、カモ、そして鷲の姿も見ることができました。
夏は絶対綺麗に違いないと確信できたので、暖かくなってから出直したいと思います。
自然がそのまま残っている綺麗な場所です。

海の真横にある沼

分かりづらい場所にありますが、晩成温泉を通り過ぎてまっすぐ行って、Y字型に二股に分かれている道を右に進みます。
細い道ですが車で登ることができ、上がったところに車を停めるスペースもあります。
そこからは歩いて沼の方向へ進んでいけば見えてきます。
道はなく草むらを突き進む感じです。

ホロヤカントウ沼は若干の砂浜によって海と分断された沼です。
珍しい景色だと思います。
