Sapphire Blue Water
Jul 2020
The pond is small but the sapphire blue water is amazing. Comparing to Shirogane Blue Pond, I prefer this one but it's quite tricky to take a good photo due to the size and the sun reflection on the water.

Shallow sapphire color pond with wild koi on the lower part of the pond. If you are lucky , you may witness wild deer . Worth a visit .

Amazing quirk of nature
Sep 2017 • Couples
This is a tough spot to reach, but if you have access to a car it's worth the drive. This
pond is found at the end of a long dirt road, tucked into the mountains.

Even on a cloudy day the water of his pond are incredibly blue and clear. This phenomenon is cause by Mt. Mashu spring water constantly being cycled up from below. Every day 12000 tons of water burble up from the mountain, keeping the pond at a constant level and a pristine blue color, even through melting winter snow. Because the water stays at a cool 8℃ all year round, the trees that have fallen into the pond never rot and muddy the water.

This is a very remote area, don't expect to have cell phone service. This area also has bear activity, so I would advise not cutting it too close to nightfall. There is a bathroom and parking lot.

Kaminoko (Child of the Gods) Pond. The pond is really Blue in colour. Is deep in the forest, and the air is very fresh. Only 5 minutes walk to the pond from the car park.

surprisingly better on a cloudy day
Aug 2017 • Friends
the road here is not well marked and there are little to no signs. Note that once you turn off the main road its a dirt road. The walk there is short. The color is amazing but surprisingly better on a cloudy day - even rainy probably!- than on a sunny day. Its quite a detour but worth it.

Blue, really blue.
Jul 2017 • Family
This is a small pond with exotic colour. The coloured pond is the origin of the clear water stream... looks like the water comes out of the ground, originally comes from Lake Mashu-ko, which is known by its the purest and the most transparent water (there is no river running into the Lake Mashu).
You need to drive a lonely road to reach to this place. As a reward, you'll enjoy the sound of nature, and unbelievably beautiful (even surreal) scenery.
Simply, unmissable.

Kami no Ko Pond (Child of God Pond)
Aug 2015
It's a very well known beautiful pond just outside the border of the Shiretoko National Park, and according to my friend the water comes from nearby Lake Mashu. The water's colored aquamarine and emerald green and very still and mysterious to behold, they said it is about 5feet deep. Need to have a car to come here or maybe reserve a bus tour.
