It's a long way and a long drive but the view of the sea and more importantly the mountains is just stunning. If you are in East Hokkaido please make a trip there. Do be careful about the icy conditions though

We booked a snowshoe tour via activityjapan and they took us to Goko Lakes. The road is gated in the winter. All the guide services met at the gate. Unlocked it. And the drove the rest of the way to the 5 lakes. Thus it...More

Two routes available. An elevated footpath takes the visitor on a 1.6km out-and-back walk to Lake Ichiko. It is free and no special footwear is required. The route provides stunning views of the Shiretoko mountain range. Electric fences surround the walkway, to keep the bears...More

A highlight of our trip. Magical place with the autumn colors, specially if you get to do the whole trail with the five lakes (they might close it in case of bears sightings but wait and it might change). Can't recommend enough.

Shiretoko Goko(5 Lakes) is now the highlight of sightseeing in Shiretoko Peninsula. We received a lecture about what we should do if we meet with a bear before hiking this place. I was happy that I didn't see any bears. The weather was nice, cool,...More

I had a guided tour round the five lakes. I do recommend having a guided tour as you will miss a lot if you walk all the way on your own. My guide, Suganuma San, knows a lot about the lakes and he is fun....More

Was lucky and saw a bear in the distance; nice nature trail ... and fine just doing the free hike; although you pay 500 for the parking.

Our guide, Satoru Wakatsuki was incredible, he greatly showed us the wonders of the site and despite the fact that he didn't speak english fluently, he could be understood very well. It was a 3 hour long tour which took us into the preserved forest...More

Might as well get the guided tour since it’s not a place you can visit often if you are from far away places. The visitors centre has food, etc

I believe you have already been there. I absolutely don’t recommend a tour. The tour costs 5000¥ as far as I read here on TripAdvisor. The entrance fee in August 2018 costs 260¥ pP. The 3km can be easily done in 45-60 min... More
