We were picked up at our hotel by the guide, taken to the park and did the full 3 hour trek around the 5 lakes. Great scenery, views and although we didnt see bears, lots of other interests.

We went there about 3 times in 2 days. First day we did the broadwalk at 5pm. Second time we did the long walk with a guide Mr Yagi who was very informative and an avid photographer. Telling us stories about the bears and trees....More

No bears but wonderful views along the amazing construction that is this long boardwalk. Didn't do the other lakes as this involved a guide at this time of the year

Great view of snow capped mountain and lakes during first week of May. Elevated wooden path are free of charge. A little windy even though it is May. Prepare light jacket.

Shiretoko five lakes is situated in the peninsula at the tip of the northernmost island of Japan. It is also a World heritage site which is preserved very well as tourists who hiked inside is controlled daily (only a few can get inside per day)....More

The walk only takes a couple of hours and it is at a very leisurely pace, with a lot of stops to take pictures. If you're staying in Utoro, the drive there is less than half an hour.
