Did the five lakes walk which has great views and lovely calm lakes. Bear warning video and lecture beforehand was pretty scary and almost put our teenage daughter off! But once in the walk we made plenty of noise and had a bear bell to...More

At the entrance, it was said that you couldn't walk through grand trail because a bear came out twice today. I was disappointed. But while I went to the toilet, the ground trail was opened again. Listened to the lecture, went to the large...More

Its entrance to observatory deck is free but needed to pay for vehicle parking to get to the observatory deck. Parking is 200 yen. Beautiful path and scenic. Worth going.

No bears but wonderful views along the amazing construction that is this long boardwalk. Didn't do the other lakes as this involved a guide at this time of the year

Great view of snow capped mountain and lakes during first week of May. Elevated wooden path are free of charge. A little windy even though it is May. Prepare light jacket.

The walk only takes a couple of hours and it is at a very leisurely pace, with a lot of stops to take pictures. If you're staying in Utoro, the drive there is less than half an hour.
