This waterfall can be reached by a comfortable twenty-minute walk from the Shiretoko Nature Center; which is at the entrance to the Shiretoko National Park; and which isn't to be confused with the Shiretoko World Heritage Conservation Center, located in the nearby town of Utoro.
The route is not only or so interesting for the waterfall (which may or may not be there, or be more or less fed depending on the season), but for the scenic cliff where it falls, reaching the sea, and for the bucolic scenery of the plain (slightly sloping) through which the cliff is reached.
The route is therefore certainly worth doing.

Went to the visitor centre just after 9.00am. The staff were very helpful with maps and advice - speaking some English. They gave advice about the unlikely posibilty of meeting a bear. We decided to walk to the falls and had only walked about 5 minutes into the woods, when my wife suddenly stopped because there was a bear sitting among the trees about 25 yards from us. We made a quiet withdrawal and told the Park Ranger who closed the trail. She thanked us for reporting the bear and gave us a free postcard as a gift. We went back later in the day and were able to walk the 20 minutes to the falls where we saw a number of deer. The falls were trickling out but it was a pleasant walk- then made our way back.

A very pleasant 2km walk to the falls.
Allow 40” to walk in winter.
Do take care walking on the narrow pathways.

A nice walk of 20 minutes to the Furepe Waterfall. The view of the walking track is amazing. Green grassland with plenty of little flowers, mountains all around. However, it is quite disappointing that it is not much like a waterfall as the water is so little...

This is an 20 minutes hike from the Shiretoko Nature Centre and is easily accessible with well marked signs along the way. You will also have the chance to come in close contact with deers and foxes during the short hike.

At the end of the trail, you are rewarded with an amazing view of Sea of Okhotsk and Furepe falls against the backdrop of the vast mountain range of Daishueshan.

Visited when it was misty so we could not see the waterfall clearly but the hike was still very enjoyable. Surprised to see many wild deers as we walked!

Note: The trail towards the waterfall is slightly downwards-sloping, so the walk back is somewhat more strenuous.

Lucky me, it could be so beautiful from the visitor centre! But go earlier! I took the 12:30pm bus and started the walk and I nearly had to run back as the last bus was 2pm back to town! It’s at least 30 min one way on the snow and more if you take lots of photos!

We took the first bus out to the Shiretoko national park, completed the full trail walk by around noon or so and then stopped by the visitor's center to do the trail leading to this waterfall.

The bus timings meant that we had to hustle quite a bit to walk to the waterfall and back in order to get back to town in time to catch the cape cruises, but in hindsight we should have just taken it easy as we rushed back to town only to discover that all cruises were cancelled for the day because the seas were rough. While we were somewhat disappointed, we were glad that doing this trail enabled us to at least see the waterfall from land (the cruises allow you to view this waterfall from the base of the sea cliffs).

A really nice trail that allows you to see a different part of the Shiretoko park and look out from the cliffs. Do make time for this if you can.

Visited early morning - through the walking trail from the visitor centre about 15mins walk through the forest slightly downhill and then to open land when nearer to the edge of cliff. There is an observation point overlooking the sea and also you can see the waterfall down the cliff...beautiful view with seagulls flying around the cliff below you. ..there is also a boat tour that you can book to go close to the waterfall which we did not take.

The walk through the forest and fields was about 20min with some uphill, the end of the trail and view of the waterfall was mediocre, not that exciting as the water at that time was a trickle.
Would rate it 50-50 as to whether the walk was worth the view at the end of the trail.
