Splendid scenery with seabirds flying and swimming
Feb 2018 • Solo
"Akaiwa" is a 48m vertical rock that sits upright from the sea. "Akaiwa observatory" is set on slope of cliffs above "Akaiwa". Some species of seabirds including endangered breed around "Akaiwa". Especially, Oloron birds (guillemots) breed only on "Akaiwa" without any other place in Japan. So, “Akaiwa” is not only spectacular but also give great opportunity to observe very rare species of seabirds flying and swimming around. Ground of cliffs, Rhinoceros Auklets form world largest colony, the number is about 800,000. In the evening, numberless of them start to fly back their colony.
