Ocean Expo Park is a very spacious park with several major attractions, including Tropical Dream Center, which has many tropical trees and flowers, and Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium.
Save your energy and ride the trolley from one attraction to the next. The trolley is only 200 yen for a ticket that you can use all through a day, getting off and on at the various attractions. It’s well worth it.
There’s no trolley schedule posted. You go to one of the stops and wait until a trolley shows up. In our case, we took the trolley twice. Both times, we had to wait less than 5 minutes. But we heard from other tourists that they’d not had that good luck and had to wait quite a while.

We visited here mainly just to go to the aquarium, however I was surprised at how much more there was, and how much fun the Ocean Expo Park was. Entrance to the park is also free, which was nice, and it has a great view of the ocean.

Besides the aquarium there were manatees, turtles, playgrounds, a beach, and dolphins. However the dolphin show was closed because it was November (we still had 80 degree weather and sun). Also, since it was November I have a feeling the park was much less crowded than usual, which was nice.

The only downside is that, if you're staying in Naha City, it takes about 3 hours by bus to get to the Ocean Park (we couldn't rent a car). However, we took the #120, instead of the #111. So the bus traveled along the coast, and we stopped for awhile in a small town to visit the beach and play in the water.

If you do plan to got to the aquarium, the Nago Bus Terminal, where you need to change buses for the aquarium, sells discounted tickets.

Also, be careful not to leave too late, as the bus stops running at a certain time. We ended up taking a taxi back to our hotel. Though we did work out a deal with the cab, so it ended up being the same price as if we had taken the bus.

There are 3 areas in the park: Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Tropical Dream Center and Native Okinawan Village. It is such a huge area that we could only finish the Aquarium and Tropical Dream Center even we were there from 11am to 5pm.
The aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world and home to enormous sharks and rays such as the whale shark and manta ray.
In the north end of the Expo Park, there is a man-made 6-hectare white sand beach, Emerald Beach where visitors can swim (April-Oct) and this beach was selected as one of the 88 best beaches in Japan.
The Tropical Dream Center, where it is one of the world's largest green-houses, allowing flowers to bloom throughout the year and housing numerous tropical plants, such as orchids, tropical fruit, and flowering trees, the Sunset Square, where visitors can watch the beautiful sunset into the East China Sea, and the Tropical & Subtropical Arboretum of the City Greenery Project (Greenery Kingdom), a favorite attraction for overseas visitors.

Great for families, from trampolines to turtle watching to photo opportunities. Really nice space to walk through. The winding paths, the curated gardens. Really lovely area to pack a lunch and have a picnic.

We booked a 5 day break in Motobu-cho with our 5-year old wondering if there was enough to keep her entertained. Ocean Park Expo kept on giving and we were sad to leave though ever so Glad we came. There is so much to see and do. We purchased an annual pass for the aquarium which is the same price as the cost of two visits. Our child was free. With our annual pass we were entitled to half phrice on the Tropical Dream Centre, free shuttle bus rides and 5% discount on food and shopping outlets. From the beach throughout the park to the Dream Centre the Park is well cared for and full of surprises. Absolutely fabulous.

So many parts to this Ocean Expo Park! We were rushed and just about ran in the hot sun for 15 minutes to visit the Aquarium and Manatee Center. We wish we'd had time to see the Cultural Center, which others in our group greatly enjoyed. The Aquarium was amazing in its variety of species and grandeur of the open ocean tank, and is the subject of another review. Throughout the grounds, beautiful Sago Palms (Cycas revoluta) are found in abundance. You can also access the sandy beach via stairways if you have time.

If you don't plan on paying for the aquarium, go to this park! The park has rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, jungle trails, flower gardens and a traditional Okinawa village...plan about two hours and a picnic lunch here. You will love exploring it!

Over the years, I have visited this attraction many times. It is a great place to go with family or, friends. You could spend several days there and, never get to see it all. The free things to do are always a plus but, even the places which charge admission fees are economical and well worth seeing. The grounds and facilities are kept orderly and most places stroller or, wheelchair friendly. Staff members are polite and helpful. Parking areas get crowded, sometimes so, be prepared to do some walking. Good, comfortable shoes are recommended and yen, rather than dollars, for spending money is advised. Take along a camera, because you'll have plenty of opportunities to use one.
