This is the best onsen, has a hot and hotter wooden tub, right in town so easy access in your robe! Also the foot onsen opposite is a good spot with a beer at then end of the day!

Wow, it was HOT! We have enjoyed onsen's and hot baths in Japan at hotels in the Hakuba region for a number of years. First time to Nozawaonsen, so we had to try the 'free' local onsets. We were prepared for the vagaries of water...More

Tried to go in the hotter bath first. Bad mistake, one of the most painful experiences I've had. Then a kind local told us we should go in the "cooler" one lol. Looks nice outside but very basic washing/tap facilities and hard to acclimatise with...More

Amazing façade; very hot and sulphurous waters. 1 of about 13 free Onsen in Nozawa Onsen. Ones' near the hill were more intimate and smaller - able to pull The drain plug to add copious amounts of cold water . Love this place - onsen,...More

Yes, this charming old building has free entry to segregated baths. Two large tubs on each side. Be warned, the water is incredibly hot, but there is one "temperate" and one "hot " bath, the former closer to the entrance. Remember that in Japan one...More
