As it contains much mineral, this is great Onsen. But there are also some disappointing factors here. - only 1 bathtub. Need one more inside as well. - water pool inside occupies too spacious. Smaller one is sufficient. - soil bank in front of outside bathtub. It looks like barrier for nice view. To be honest, here is a bit... More

Totally rustic, "shabby" set-up, but the best water in town. Large rectangular outdoor wooden tub totally encrusted with minerals. Salty-brown opaque iron water 'will cure what ails ya.' Cool water tub inside. 600 yen grants you entrance and an embossed wash towel. Yes! (Coupons not accepted.)

This is my favorite onsen in Hakuba because the water is rich in minerals. It is "outdoor" but there was a plastic tarp closed over the viewing portal--maybe because it was snowing so much. The water is a rich reddish hue and really steamy hot. My skin felt silky after soaking here.
