Jack is an excellent trainer. Front desk staff could be nicer.
Dec 2020
Our instructor Jack Boesten from Australia was excellent!!!! He helped us with picking out rental ski gear and accessing the ski slopes. We were all complete beginners so we had no idea what to do . Jack was patient and managed to lead a full class of 6 beginners all by himself. I had a blast and can't wait do another lesson with Evergreen again!

I wasn't a huge fan of the ladies at the check in counter. They were very stoic and not the most welcoming. Hardly gave us any information.

Very good services - recommended for all ages
Dec 2020
I was a little concern when I booked a couple of ski classes to my son (6y) because of some bad reviews I had read in here but, on the other side, a friend that had used the services back in feb'20 had no issues at all and was recommending Evergreen for the kid's ski classes so I decided to try.
My initial concern vanished just after arriving at the school center to drop my son for his first class. All staffs, Japanese or not, had a very good english level and I could see, ate the registration desk, how gentle, kind and friendly they were with all kids. My son loved the classes and the instructions (special thanks to Zara). By the end, instead of having just a couple of classes, my soon did a total of 4 full day classes and I'm very happy to see how he evolved and most important, how much fun he had.
I also took a snowboard class w/ Pierre, which gave me very good tips on how to improve my technics.
My wife also dia a ski class w/ Brian, which was very patient and friendly in her first ever ski class.
Another good surprise was with their flexibility. We had to re-scheduled some of the classes and they did it without making any question or any additional charge.
By the end, my family and I had a very good experience and I do recommend them. The only "improvement" that I would suggest is for them to offer a photographer service as we cannot join the kid's classes and, by the end, we don't have photos of that very fun moment.

Wonderful Service
Feb 2020 • Family
We are completer beginner skiiers and snow boarders.

We took 2 half day ski and board lessons for 2 adults and 2 children in Feb.
By the end of the first day the instructor had our 9yo going down green slopes by himself.
The snow board and children's instructors were amazing. By the end of the second lesson we all had the skills to tackle a green slope, even the very nervous middle aged mum!
When our son got lost on the mountain on day 3 the ski school, drivers and instructors all helped out to find him, thankfully with the skills he had gained in his lessons he was able to tackle the mountain by himself safely (this was not the plan, he got lost for 2 hours)

There was a small problem on the second day when I was put in a beginner class not level 1 by an instructor. They quickly sorted it out and offered me a make up class the next day. Unfortunately we were leaving and they refunded me the cost of the lesson.
We will definitely take lessons with this ski school again.

Decent international ski school with great instructors
Mar 2020
It’s a bit difficult to write a review. The situation is quite exceptional with a bad season (regarding snow) and Covid-19. My kids (11 and 13) had group lesson the first day (no other kids) and could only do private lessons during the other days as they stopped offering group lessons. Pretty expensive because of that. Instructors were all good and kids learned a lot and had a great time! Communication with Evergreen office was not perfect, but also had to do with unclear situation I guess

Perfect ski school experience for us
Mar 2020
Evergreen provided our children with an excellent skiing experience, kind and focused on their abilities, and sensitive when they were lacking confidence. There is an excellent system of 'ticking boxes' on a skills card so that the kids can see how they are progressing through the levels and our children proudly came home and showed off ticks each day. Group lessons were not cancelled when the numbers were low. I also had a whole day 'group' lesson snowboarding that turned out to be private tuition when no-one else showed. My instructor was also outstanding. Free shuttle provided for pick up (we were up the road in Wadano, near the Sakka slope, and in a good season it would be possible to do a green run to the school.)

worst first time learning experience ever!!
Mar 2020 • Solo
I attended the First timer skier lesson at 10am 1st March. Would like to feedback that the instructor today absolutely spoiled my first ever experience in learning skiing. While I can understand that the instructor is very experienced, I do not share the sentiment that he should yell at his students. If we are good in skiing, we would not have signed up for the lesson in the first place. firstly, He doesn’t really demonstrates the techniques, he does not personally correct my mistakes, only shouts and yells without giving any thoughts to the students and what problems the student may be having. He ignores me when i have a fall, not even showing or teaching how to get up, instead, he says don’t learn from him if we fall! Is this really what a first timer should go through?? Really devastating! I really want my money back!! Really hate this experience.

BEWARE IF YOU HAVE SMALL KIDS! And beware their very unfriendly policies.
Feb 2020
I booked my 4 kids (ages 14, 12, 10 and 7) for a total of three half days of lessons. The older kids got a great instructor on the 2nd and 3rd day, but there were several very major problems, especially with my youngest. As a result, I cannot recommend Evergreen at all and especially to people with young children, as you will see below.

Brief version of the problems we encountered:
- Booking for half a day is not the 4 hours of tuition that we expected, but only 2-2 1/2 of actual tuition plus an hour for lunch

- On the first day, the kids were all placed with a supervisor rather than a regular instructor, but because she was a supervisor she was taking phone calls every few minutes, during which time she would completely ignore the kids. This was very frustrating since she only spent perhaps a little more than half the time teaching and the rest of the time on the phone.

- Found my 7 year old CRYING on the 2nd day when I turned up to collect him a little early. He had been asking to go to the bathroom for 20 minutes and the instructor had refused to allow him! Then she just left him crying while attending to the other kids. I pulled him out immediately. He refused to go back to the school the next day, but despite complaining about this to the manager (Haruna I think she was called), she refused to give a refund for his unused day.

- Another dad I was talking to had had a similar bad experience with his 6 year old daughter who had done only 3 runs on the magic carpet in the entire 2 hour lesson! A run on the magic carpet takes about 5 minutes only - for the rest of the lesson she was just left to amuse herself at the bottom of the slope.

- My eldest daughter injured her knee on the 2nd day. It wasn't too serious but she was unable to walk without quite a bit of pain and definitely could not ski. But despite the instructor confirming that she had in fact had a fall and injured herself, Evergreen still refused to give a refund for her unused 3rd half day! The manager said we must get a medical certificate and that was the only time they would give a refund! I asked her if the reason for getting a medical certificate was to prove that the person was really injured and she said yes. So I said that her own ski instructor could confirm it, yet even the instructor confirmed it to the supervisor, she still refused to refund us. It seems they're really not interested in confirming if someone is hurt and will do anything possible to avoid returning money. This even though our kids were just part of a regular group, not a private lesson and so the school would not have had to pay an instructor for an unused lesson.

As I said, the older kids did have a great instructor on days 2 & 3 and enjoyed their time with him but there's no way we would ever put our kids back in Evergreen after all these other major issues. We chose Evergreen because they were recommended by our hotel, but we will be sharing this with our hotel too in the hope that they will end their partnership. Hope this helps other parents out there!

Ski school located in the middle of no where, poor instructors, no green runs except goat tracks
Jan 2020
Evergreen ski school is located in a poor location with only a vegan cafe near bye. To get back in the evening you had to either ski to a different location and get a bus or ski down a very icy closed run and hope you don't crash out. Our instructors insisted on taking our group on steep icy runs despite the group clearly not ready, every single run for the whole day was filled with different ski exercises, we were never allowed to do just one free run down a slope. We had to hold poles parallel etc. I would not recommend this ski school.

Mixed instructors
Jan 2020 • Family
We just spent a week skiing, as a family of 3 of mixed abilities we have had a mixed experience.
My 7 year and husband have had great instruction. English Ed was great with the kids and my little one thought he was “awesome” really bought on his confidence.
My husband also had a great 3 half day lessons and made improvements at level 4.
I’m an intermediate skier and the guy who took the group was really quite poor, I didn’t come away learning anything on my first lesson.
It’s was difficult the week we were there as the beginner slopes were not open, so we had people who should not of been in the group. Also because of the lack of slow we were only getting to some of the slopes to ski down at around 11.00 so an hour already lost from the half day lesson. Maybe if this is the case I think Evergreen should also start saying to get to lessons at 9.30 for start skiing at 10.00.

Despite limited terrain for beginners, I learned to ski
Jan 2020
Despite generally good snow across the mountain, the main (and only wide) slope for beginners was closed for the duration of our stay last week. Nonetheless, I had a very positive experience with Evergreen, attending four full days of classes. As a 58 year old novice, I joined the first timer class, moving on to Level 1, and then Level 2 for the final two days.

Brian who took me for the first two days is an excellent educator, with a well defined methodology, clear communication, great patience, and genuine care for each member of his class. He stripped everything back to basics, ensuring that each element stuck with the class before moving on. On the second day, despite the size of the class, he developed tailored ‘projects’ for his students, so each of us could focus on our personal next steps.

James W and Caden took my two Level 2 classes. They were both highly professional, dealing well with the lack of suitable terrain for the class. I was impressed in particular by the way James kept track of every class member’s progress, offering appropriate tips and encouragement for each individual.

My daughter also took a class (Level 4) with Toby and had a blast.

After completing my four days of training, I was able to ski with my daughter for our last day and a half at Happoone, including several runs on red slopes. All in all, I’m delighted with the way Evergreen has got me up and running.
