When we were coming to the observatory, we didn't expect it to be such an amazing place. The satellite transmitters look like from some film scene. A fascinating place to explore. The entrance is free and you need to put the phone to airplane mode. There's also a small museum and 3d cinema with short films about the universe. The personnel was very helpful and provided us with English materials.

Most interesting radio astronomical observatory in Japan and not far from Tokyo! Here you can see many large paraboloidal reflector antennas, including several 10m dishes in an interferometer and a 45m antenna which is one of the larges in the world! The observatory offers self guided tours and can be reached by car or after a 30-40 min walk from Nobeyama station. Every August, Saturday around 20th, there is an open gates day with lots of activities. In short, very interesting place even if you are not into radio astronomy

The surrounding area has the feel of a highland resort, but suddenly a group of huge parabolic antennas comes into view. Basically, you walk around looking at the antennas that are set up outdoors, and you can tour them for free. Parking is also free.
The specs of these telescopes may not be comparable to those of the latest telescopes in other countries these days, but for an amateur, it was a spot that gave me a sense of romance.

It's about 30 minutes by car from Kiyosato. The parking lot is large and free. The huge astronomical observation antenna is spectacular. The site is large, so you need about 60 minutes to visit.
