神社自体は小さく、日本中にも気比神社があります。こちらは、馬が輸送手段であったことから、交通安全の神様で有名です。御神木は、大人が十人で囲んだ太さがあったとか。

三沢から八戸への移動途中に立ち寄りました。この地で奨励された馬 牛の畜産守り神として、福井県敦賀市 気比神社より勧請したそうです。紅葉が綺麗でした。

御祭神は足仲彦尊（仲哀天皇）。古くから馬産地であり馬産の安全、現在では交通安全の神として地域の信仰を集めているようです。落ち着いたアトモスフィアの良いジンジャ・シュラインです。

創建に関しては諸説あり1477年と云われるものがありますが、源頼朝に由来していることもあり、本当はもっと早いのかもしれません。
元々、この辺りは馬の生産が盛んだったことを頼朝が奥州征伐の際に知り、軍用も兼ねて馬の生産の管理を幕府で行なおうと臣下をこの地に派遣した際に越前國一之宮で北陸道総鎮守と名高かった気比神宮を勧請したとも言われます。
気比神社は元々、農業・漁業・家畜といった食物を司ると云われますが、ここでは馬を祀る、家畜の神様、交通の手段だった馬を多く産出していることから交通の神様と云われている様です。
境内には御神木は朽ちてきたことから伐採されてしまったようですが、6個の力石があります。（今は半分埋まっているので持つことは出来ませんが・・・）
かつては祭りの際に力自慢たちがこの石を持ち上げ、廻り、力と技を披露したそうです。
全体的に小さな神社ではありますが本殿・拝殿が見事で周囲の杜も良い雰囲気で落ち着く神社です。
